Currently I am using a Marlin 1894 levergun in 44MAG. Great woods gun, light and quick with a followup shot if needed. I absolutely love to carry that gun.

That depends on what state, and what type of hunting.
Indiana - Savage Muzzleloader, either .45 or .50 cal most of the time. Last day of the season a buddy normally does a deer drive on his place. Then I break out the Tar-Hunt DSG 12 ga. Late season is my Barnett Revolution x-bow.
Wisconsin - Browning A-Bolt Mountain Ti .243 or slug gun for the heavy cover. I've used the Savage ML, Wby .257 and Remington 742 in 30-06, but the A-Bolt is the lightest gun and I doubt that I'll have a shot over 300 Yds. 1 5/8" high at 100 = 5" low at 300.
Out West, .257 Wby or 7mm Allen Magnum.

Since this is in modern firearms I'll stay with them.
IN: Rifles taken out: An 1894 in 41 & 44Mag; Encore 500S&W & 357Max. Handguns taken out: S&W 27, BH in 45LC, Encores in a bunch of calibers. Of course my 870, but I haven't used it since rifles came in. Oh; and a couple of XP's
KY: Rifle's I've used: 270WSM, 260, 35Whelen (also when it was in 30-06 from), 444. Only handgun I've used there is an Encore in 25-06.
There is no telling which of these plus several others I haven't taken out yet will go with me at one time. IN is always wide open; I have used the 270WSM in KY the last 3 years when long shots are the rule of the day however my 6mmRemAI should be rung out by next fall & I'm sure I will want to bloody it.

Indiana - Depending on the conditions and where I hunt
Encore with an 18 inch 44 mag barrel, an 18 inch 50 cal ML barrel, OR..a 44 mag, .308, 30-06, or .243 pistol barrel Contender with 7-30 Waters, 6mm TCU, 7TCU, 44mag pistol barrels or 45 cal ML rifle barrel
I recently bought a house in Missouri so I now have a 20 inch .270 Encore rifle barrel for hunting deer and boar over there which I hope to break in on a couple boar this winter since I was not able to ride in a car let alone get out to hunt during deer season.

.375 Whisper wildcat cartridge in a Tikka T3 bolt action rifle with Leupold 3x9 in Indiana. Like this gun so well that I took it to Kansas (where anything is legal) and killed two deer with it there.
In Illinois I shoot a Savage 12ga bolt action that has been tricked out by my gunsmith buddy and topped with a Leupold 3x9.
I've also got a TC .45 cal muzzle loader too, topped with a Leupold 2x7, but have not used it this year.
