Been reading up on the 454 Casull cartridge. Did a search on this site and saw no posts. This cartridge seems to have some serious horsepower for a factory load. Rifles are available chambered for this. Is there a reason no one uses or discusses it? Thanks

Go with a 460 S & W. You can shoot the 454 in it if you want less power and recoil. Same as shooting 45 Colt in the 454. BTW, the 454 in a handgun is a bear, the 460 more so. Not bad in a rifle, but you'll know when it goes off.

The only reason I didnt get a PCR is the selection is slim for the 454 and I didnt like the pump style action. Recoil from one is about that of a 12 gauge slug gun. I reload for my handgun so loads are tuned down a bit. h.h.

Thanks for the replies. Did some looking and see that the 460 S&W is new for Indiana, I think, and just out performs the 454. The TC encore prohunter camo rifle with SS fluted barrel is about $800 bucks. Add a 3x9 Leupold and have one wonderful rifle to use. Probably have one in my hands next year.

I have shot a SRH in 454 and while there is some recoil, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - I have a 500S&W carbine so the 454 really wouldn't offer me anything much different and would actually be a downgrade which is why I haven't picked a barrel up. The 460 ought to make a very nice one.

My father has an MGM encore barrel in 454. With handloads it shoots cloverleaf groups at 50 yds. Also have a 445 and 357 max. The 357 shoots same size groups with factory ammo, the 445 is about 1.5" at 50 yds with handloads.
