hey kevin 1, squirrel hunting is my favorite type of hunting ( just do not like the heat and mosquitoes) besides that its" the greatest..the greatest thrill is sneaking up a ridge and the shavings of hickory or oaks nuts are falling thru the leaves and hitting the ground (i just love that sound)i love the end results of squirrels, biscuits ,and gravvvvvy...take a youngster on your next squirrel hunting trip.... turkey scout

I'm tempted to start the season early. They love to take a bite or two out of my almost-ripe tomatoes! BBs discourage them for awhile, but they are persistant!

This Morning, I did a spot check, in my area, on the Hickory Nut situation, and I am seeing not too many Hickory nuts, and very few Walnuts this year. Wondering what the "Mast" situation is in some other areas, in Southern/Central Indiana??

I hate the heat also so I wait till late November or December. I love when the leaves are off the trees and there is snow on the ground. IT'S LIKE PLAYING ENEMY AT HE GATE.

I used to squirrel hunt like a madman, I`ve sat out in 10 below zero weather to bust them. I`ve decide over the years that I don`t like the fox squirrels any longer, but do enjoy the taste of the grays. Some say there`s no difference in the taste, so could be I`m imagining that.
I hope to get my 25 year old son to go with me this August to the Hoosier National down by the firetower near Bloomington. I know of a few hickory groves there. The hunting can be dynamite if you can get far enough off the main runs so the bird watches, hikers and other assorted visitors aren`t walking all over you.
