This was due to lask of mast and there was a disease of mange that the Squirrels got. As for Rabbits, I can honestly tell you that I haven't seen many rabbits at all since we had those bad winters of 1977 & '78. Also urban spraw, changes in farming pratices, free roaming cats & dogs + coyotes have taken a drastic toll on Contontails. The BEST rabbit hunt was back before 1970, when it was no effort to get your limit of rabbits, and places to hunt was no problem here in Indiana, but it is gone now!

yeah i know numbers are down overall.......................... but the same farm im allowed to hunt for whitetails.................does have some rabbits here and there. over the last 2 years of bowhunting..............i have seen an increase in rabbits, despite a known high coyote population ? (at least in my area where i used to see NONE)........... either way..........at the close of whitetail season................this type of hunting gives me yet ONE more excuse to stay out in the woods ! :)in all honesty, i will be all smiles if i have just a couple limbrats and a bushy tail or two for the pot. i cant remember the last time i did this type of hunting................i have went out over the past couple of weekends............. a refreshing change and relaxed pace............succesful or not camoham

camoham, I am not certain what county you live in, but where I live; I've seen an increase in the Deer Population. As for Rabbits they have been on the decline for years now, at least here in Vanderburgh County. I use to live North of Washington, Indiana, and up there I found the best Rabbit Hunting. I've haven't been up there for a rabbit hunt in years so don't know how it is now. The Squirrel number, while a little low ithis past season, have always been somewhat stable.

Large numbers of coyotes & modern farming techniques in my area have done a number on the rabbit & quail populations over the years.

hey camoham, here a suggestion to extend your outdoor experiences, beagles and jack russel terriers, there are a blast during the off seasons. beagles for bunnies and jack russels for late season squirrel hunting, they sure add a lot of enjoyment for me and my friends after deer season over. good luck turkey scout
