I had my T/C pistol with the .243 Win barrel in hand this morning and a pretty standard 6 pointer appeared down the trail and started to head my way. I had passed a buck similar to this one in archery season, but this was only the 2nd deer that I have seen while hunting this year, so I decided to take a shot, if one presented itself. He got to about the 40 yard mark and offered a head on shot. I aimed dead center of the chest and squeezed. It hit him pretty hard and he actually stood straight up in the air on his hind legs and I thought for a moment that he might fall over backwards, but he did not. When he fell forward back to all fours he lowered his head and ran as hard as he could 30 yards into an oak tree where he broke his neck and died instantly. He piled up 10 yards from me and man what a crazy sight all of this was. He actually broke off a small piece of antler from his collision as well.

Good pistol shooting. Did you hit him in the heart? I had a bow shot deer react the same way. He was only 20 feet away on the ground and straight on, and I shot him right in the chest. He didn't raise up, but he scrunched down and hit turbo, nearly running me over, eventually hitting and breaking off a locust fence post!
That rack looks like a clone of the deer I shot last year.

Nice! I had a big 8 in my scope this year at 40 yards using my 454 Casull but let him walk. Hard to do but he was a tad too small for me at the time. Nothing like hunting with a handgun it takes a lot of practice to be good enough to kill a deer. Again, congrats. h.h.
