30yds. my pattern is looking good, 35yds. and it's too open.
870, Undertaker choke, Winchester Supreme 12GA 3" 1.75oz #5's. What do you recommend for a little more range? Load change ideas, choke?

First, what are you calling "too open"?
I assume you are patterning with a turkey target, so how many pellets are hitting the head/neck at both ranges?
I use the same shells though I'm not sure what shot size I use. It's either 4's or 5's (I think they are 5's), and IIRC, my one tom I killed 2 years ago I stepped off 38 yards. Using Mossy 500, 28" barrel with a Hastings X-full extended choke.

10 pellets @ 35yds., there are 2 more very high up on the head so I didn't cout them. 30yds. - plenty.

Some people like undertakers and some don't. I started out with one of those on my Benelli Nova and later bought a second hand Kicks Gobblin Thunder because I couldn't get what I wanted at 40 yards. You don't say what Winchester Supremes you are shooting but I will let you know that the XX Magnums in #6 shot shoot much better in my gun than the high velocity ones. You might want to try some 6's. Also, in my gun 3 inch shoots better than 3 1/2 inch. If you want try a different choke you might consider the Primos Jellyhead. Lots of people seem to like them.

you want more yardage? get a gun that shoots a 3.5 inch shell that is what I did my max range was always 30 to 35 MAX no more just be sure while you are shooting a 3 inch shell to limit yourself to you effective range and have self control on your shots , you owe it to the game you are hunting

I have more effective range with the 3 inch in my gun. My gun holds the pattern tighter with a 3 inch shell.

Dave,
7-10 hits in the kill zone is considered acceptable so your gun is good to 35 yds and most likely 40. In my 835 with factory choke Win XX shot great patterns. The high speed shells don't shoot as good.
Your gun and choke are OK I would buy or try to find someone to trade different brands and try them like Rem 4x6, Fed Flight Wads. The smaller the choke the smaller the shot should be.
The newer non toxic steel shot works great too but cost a lot.
If I had to pick one shell to work in most any gun it would be Win XX. h.h.

Try a 3" #6 shot turkey load. I was looking at the Federal site, and as I recall, there are about 100 more pellets in a #6 load than a #5 load.

go with a tighter choke, try a .655 or a .640 hastings. My 870 loves the 640!
good out to 40 yards with winchester supremes #5.

Try some 3" Hevi-Shot, it's expensive but it will hold tighter patterns at longer range at least it has in all three of my guns. It seems to prefer .660 or a .665.
