My 12 yr old son woke me at 3:40 this morn telling me it was time to get up. Such enthuesiasm that early. Hated to let him down after a cup of coffee and looking at the weather, but gust up to 50 mph and steady 30 mph! This is first yr for him to sit by himself but falling limbs and trees doesn't sound good to me. Especially when he'd be 400 yds from me. Told him that we'll live today so we can hunt next weekend. Besides the chipmunks told me all the deer checked into the Holiday Inn last night. Something about an anti-hunting convention. Lol. Hope all that are going out this return safely. Take 2 safety harnesses. 1 at the top of ur tree, to keep u from falling; the 2nd, at the bottom of the tree. To keep u from flying upwards. GL if u are out there. As for me and mine, we'll join back up next weekend.

Dangerous game in this wind..Tree and limbs falling..my buddy took a picture of a ladderstand last year of his....it was crushed by a falling limb...he said he would of been sitting in it that morning if it hadn't been for the wind of 40mph...he changed his mind. I figured he wouldnt be here today if he'd of beeen in the stand that morning...go figure. I stay out of the woods anything over 20 mph. Dangerous.

I'm staying in today as well. Our lives are far more important than any deer, even a new world record.

I woke up this morning and looked out the window. To windy here also. I'm going to catch up on some sleep, watch the Bengals beat the steelers, and try to go out this evening.

20 mph here in Illinois.yes I am in the stand. I always pick big trees not only for cover but less swaying in the breeze. I think you at right about the deer being at the Holiday Inn!

Home too, never had a lot of luck in the wind and don't like taking shots from swaying trees

I am out in it today. Had a deer @ 20yrds @ 6:30. Looked at it through the scope and could have made a kill but it was before shooting light and didn't want to shoot a 4 pointer. Haven't seen anything since

I made the decision last evening that i wasn't going today. Never had any luck myself in windy conditions, but gusts like these make it dangerous to even be in a woods. I have plenty of chances to go this week so i will try it then and hopefully the temp and winds drop a little bit. I'm sick of the south winds, i have not even been able to hunt my best spot in almost 2 weeks now due to it.

Between the 30-50 mph winds up here and the rain moving in I decided to stay home and get some more winter preparation done around the house. After that taking my wife out to dinner for a well deserved date night. Gonna hit it again tomorrow and Tues; hope the vacation time pays off. Good luck everyone.

Hung in there untill 9:20. Had a small buck at 70 yards and he went into a thicket to my right. A little while later I see a deer coming through the thicket and it looked like the small buck. It got behind me at 20 yards and I cannot make out the small rack. Dang it is a big doe and now it is out of the opening I can shoot through. Watch it walk onto the next property and know if it keeps going to way it was headed I would be hearing a shot. Few minutes later, Bang. Those were all I saw but there was quite a bit of shooting around me. Hope that wind lays some by this evening.

Saw the forecast last night, so I caught an extra hour or two of sleep this morning. I printed some arial views last night and took a drive to where I saw a nice buck Friday and another spotlighting last night.
Took a look around from the road and hope to make it in there mid-morning tomorrow and catch one of them looking for another doe.
The high wind didn't bother me as bad as the direction. Anything out of the south completly screws me up.

Saw 5 bucks this morning, they were all chasing does, shot a nine pt. at 10 yards with my muzzleloader. All before 7:15am. Hunted on the ground, wind was not that bad. Debated to go out or not, decided you cant get them from the couch.
