Picked up one of these rifles a couple weeks ago for kids and Dad to use, something with less recoil that the shotguns. Topped it with a Leupold VX-II 3x9.
Got it dialed in last weekend. Shooting Hornady 240 gr XTP, hollow points I zeroed it ar 100 yards, resutling in -6" at 150 yards and -12" at 200 yards. The 225gr plastic tipped Hornadys did not group as well.
The gun is pretty decent and plenty accurate for hunting, but just not up to the accuracy standards that I expect out of a rifle. I think much of it is the result of having a 7-8 lb trigger pull. Wish they had longer barrels too.
May stick a Timney trigger in it next year, but it's good to go for now.

What kind of groups did you get with the XTP's?

Unless you are lucky most guns dont shoot to their potential using factory ammo. Hand rolled ammo can be tweaked to get the best accuracy and tightest groups.
I personally like the Speer Gold Dot 270 grain bullet for the .44 mag rifle or the 240 XTP. White box Winchester soft points are probably the best out of the box round for the .44 mag. h.h.

I had a 77/44 for a while. The size and handling was great for a hunting rifle but I never could get acceptable accuracy. Good luck with yours.

Mine (or my daughters I should say) shoots pretty well.
Under 2" at 100 yards with the Hornady 225 FTX and a healthy dose of H110.

Topped it with a Leupold VX-II 3x9. Will 40mm Obj. lens work with the Ruger rings/mounts it comes with?

Most new Rugers have horrendous triggers, but they can likely be lightened. Those are neat looking little rifles.

I found that my 77/44 likes the 300gr XTP bullets the best.

What is the barrel twist rate in these?

The Ruger 77/44 has a 1 in 20" twist.
