After last season I bought a 44 handi rifle & the tall scope rings [to clear the hammer] I need to be getting a scope soon. I have been looking at the bushnell 3x9 713948, but wanted a second opinion or 2, not wanting to spend a fortune. thanks in advance . Mike

Just put a Nikon 3x9-40 on my 44 mag Handi Rifle. They were 99.00 at Cabelas on sale.

With a Bushnell, you will definitely need the high rings due to the giant ocular.
I like the Nikon and Redfield 2-7x32's on the Handi rifle in medium Burris Zee rings.

Weaver 2.5-7X would be another option.

I have an older Tasco World Class 3-9x40 in Leupold Rifleman rings on mine. Dad fell on it while walking in to the stand one morning two seasons ago and put a nice dent in the tube body. I told him not to shoot anything over 25 yards until we re-sighted it at lunch. Shot it at lunch time and it was still dead on the money. The older Tasco stuff was really good for the money in my opinion.

Thank you guys for all the reply's, I know I missed all the sales by waiting til now to get one. I originaly was going to take the 6 power Leupold off my 22/250 & use it on the 44, & buy a good variable power scope to put back on the 250, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do now. Mike

Spend as much as you can afford on your optics! Cheap scopes usually dont hold zero and are the ones you see guys sighting in each year after last years hunting season. There are a couple nicer priced scopes that will work and with the PCR not having a lot of recoil they should be OK.
There is a way to adjust cheaper scopes so they wont move. Always adjust in and never reverse the adjustment for a few clicks. For moving right just turn it in but if you have to go back left, figure out how many clicks it takes to move the cross hairs and then back the scope out about 1 complete round and back in the amount of clicks it takes less the amount of clicks you want the hairs to move. Do the same for up and down. h.h.

6X scope might be too much for close up shots. I've used 4X scopes over the years with satisfactory results.

hammer24 that sounds like a really good deal, I might order one of those, how is that firefly reticle? Do you have to charge it with a light each time you use it? hornharvester good info on adjusting a cheap scope, makes sense & good to know. --UPDATE-- After reading up on the bushnell elite 3200 & reading the reviews , I ordered one from Natchez on clearance as hammer24 had suggested. Once again thanks for all the help everyone. Mike

You won't be disappointed! As far as the firefly reticle, I've never really done much with it. To get the full effect you need to charge it, but it absorbs the ambient light as well. It has never come into play really while hunting with it.

I have 1 with the firefly which makes for a bigger crosshair; which you may or may not like (I don't).

True, they are heavy, but for the .44 @ the ranges of it's capabilties on deer sized targets I personally really like it! I hope the OP does too! I wouldn't like it on my .223 however, when talking about small targets or extended ranges (over 200 yds.)

This Bushnell 3x9x40 has served me well on low recoiling guns. it has been on this .44 for a good while and has never changed its POI.
