Back from my trip to Wyoming and thought I would share some tips that I learned while out there. If you are hunting with milliron tj outfitters here is what to expect.
1. Don't, and I repeat don't, drive 16 hours without having a tag in your hand even if the outfitters says he has it in his. He wont. A piece of paper saying he ordered at 1:30 the morning of the first day it is not the same as having a tag.
2. If he tells you that you will be the only one hunting the ranch at the time you will not be. There will be two other hunters that he just had to squeeze in before your hunt and while you are waiting for the outfitter to get back another guy will show up to hunt the week you are there.
3. If said guy that shows up to hunt the week that you are the only one hunting and is a tv producer you are not a priority in anyones book. Even if said producer is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet he is the priority to the outfitter. Now the outfitter will tell you that he is there to film your hunt, oh gee im going to be on tv and be the next big thing getting paid to hunt and all, but the producer will tell you on the sly that he has a deer tag too.
4. Don't expect outfitter to even apologize for screwing up yet again. When you tell him you are leaving it will be a relief to him. Have to get on with making the show. He will hand you your refund minus the deer tag. You know you have a tag. We just have to get it. Even though you paid for a one on one hunt two years ago and hunted with someone else all week. Paid for six days and only hunted three.Last year you paid for an antelope tag you didn't get. You still won't get a full refund for this year
5. Continue agruement about how its not his fault that you don't have a tag in your hand. The computers were down the last two days even though he has known for a month and a half you dont have your tag.
6. Drive 16 hours back home.
Thought I'd let you guys know what to expect if you are planning on booking.
Good hunting.

Well....with millions of acres of public land to hunt in Wyoming, I'd be doing a DIY hunt anyway, but that's how I like to hunt. Even if I did go guided, I'd still apply for my license in the March draw to be sure I had one in hand before going. When you hunted those 3 days without a license, you put yourself in jeopardy with the DNR. It would have been fairly easy to drive the first day there to the closest DNR office and explain the situation to them. I've seen great responses from the Wyo. DNR in the past with license screw-ups and quick fixes to help keep hunters happy.

No way in H-E-double hockey sticks would I let the guide get my tag unless it was a state requirement. If he was pulling that kind of crap I would be DIY hunting in a NY minute. TONS of public ground in WY.

And thats the plan for next year is just to do it myself. Figure I can't do any worse on my own. Have to admit a little intimidated to be in that vast wilderness by myself.
Timex... I didn't hunt without a taglast year. I had a deer tag. The antelope tag was the one he didn't get me. This year the bow didn't come out of the case. The only reason I didn't apply for the tag myself is I figured the 5000 I gave him that he should be more than compensated enough to take care of that for me. I pay that kind of money I expect to show up and hunt.
Duff... Place is milliron tj outfitters. He is the outfitter that is down at the sport show every year booking for Wyoming deer hunts.

Sorry about your bad experience, but the hunter is generally responsible for getting his own license. There are a few exceptions, such as landowner tags, but that's pretty much the universal rule for going on guided hunts in the lower 48.
Curious ....... Assume this was an antelope hunt? How much did you spend for this guided hunt? Did you check any references? Talk to previous clients?
I've probably been on 20 guided hunts, and have never felt like I got screwed or cheated. Do a little homework and check your outfitters out beforehand, and you won't very often have a bad hunt.
One thing I see frequently however is ...... bargain priced hunts are usually the ones that go sour. For instance, if guided deer hunts with reputable outfitters in the region are averaging around $2500, and you find one for $1500 and book it, odds are great that you are going to get a sub-par hunt.
Next time, ask around on the internet forums, talk to other hunters, etc. and book a hunt with an outfitter that someone you know has hunted with.

Where at in WY does this clown operate? Did you check references or check in with G&F for his license status and reputation?
Are you hunting solo?
Ya, you will get your bow out of the case doing it DIY...

Second person this year that I have heard of getting the shaft by his "guide"
Just had a buddy return from an Elk hunt in New Mexico .... cut his trip short because of the guide.

I had a guy from church with the same issue. The guide had a plan for him and the three other hunters he had booked, but no one was getting close to a possible shot. This guy went up the mountain alone and had a bull well over 300 inches with 10 yards, but couldn't make the shot.

Sorry to hear it. If the dummy said he'd have the tag then he should have had it, period.
More people at camp than he promised, No tag as promised, competing with a tv show, all signs of a huckster.
I don't know how people sleep at night after unapologetically screwing people that pay good money.

Steiney... It was a deer and antelope combo. The deer hunt was 5200 dollars and some change. He threw in and antelope hunt for my finance because of problems in the previous years that i had hunted with him and had problems. So no it wasn't a discount hunt. I would haven't had a problem getting my own tag if he didn't insist on doing it himself. The crazy thing is that i have talked to previous clients and none has had a problem. Course i am the only one that is paying in full when i book the hunt.

So, did you kill anything?? Why not take the guy to court and get your money back, course you should have a written contract before you paid him?
