My daughter came in the other night all exited about a huge caterpillar in the yard. The way she described it I thought it was a tomato horn worm. No way as tame as that. WOULD YOU PICK IT UP? ;D She did, even named it HORNSTY She was upset because I made her release it. She said the feet had claws and they stuck her hands. I did not feel them but I am used to getting stuck by splinters at work. It is a HICKORY HORNED DEVIL the caterpillar form of the ROYAL WALNUT MOTH.

When we first moved into our house in Putnam County back in '02, we had several royal walnut moths that year and I think few the next. We were there for 7 years and those first 2 years were the only time I remember seeing them.
Never did see the caterpillar. Very cool!
