Come this Fall I will be sitting in my stand and they will come, although I took a Bird (Jake) this Spring, My 1st, But my Son is hoping to put the Smack on a Bird. Now not being a Veteran Turkey Hunter, Does it make sence to take a Hen? I have a Great woods for Turkey, This will not Hurt my Birds? Or should he wait for a Tom Or Jake, But after eating are Bird, He said he cant wait, Dad Thats some Good Eatin....

Taking a few out of the flock wont hurt at all.. It is "turkey seaosn"..I'd turn him loose on any turkey..

First bird that walks by Tom, Jake or Hen is going to be a target.

I personally would wait for a tom. It is much more of a thrill to have your first bird be a tom. Of course, up here in the north we don't have the kinds of birds they got down south.

Daworz, I hope your son gets a bird this fall, whether a hen, tom, or poult. Speaking of young ones, last week I saw on two occasions 12 or 13 turkeys in a group. Two were mature hens, two were young hens, and 8 or 9 poults that were hatched this spring and were about the size of full grown chickens. Earlier this week I saw a hen with 3 (that's all I saw, but there could have been a few more) very young poults -- about the size of a half grown chicken. They must have been hatched very late.
