I had my savage out of the safe today and I noticed the bolt and associated was starting to rust! This is a stainless gun and I have never had an issue like this before! The breech will not come out of the gun and yes I use anti-seize and now it seems like the breech removal tool has stripped the breach enough to where I can't get it out. Ideas?!

Take it to a good gunsmith. He may have to drill the breech plug out and replace it.

A couple ways you can go about taking them out. Use some Kroil or you can sub with PB Blaster but Kroil works best. Squirt a lot into the muzzle and stand it upright. I would also take it out of the stock. Let it set for a couple days or so and then use your breech plug wrench and it should come out. It helps to have someone smack the end of the wrench with a hammer while you try turning it. If this method fails heat up some boiling water and pour it into the muzzle so it heats up the gun real hot. You might have to do this a couple times or more to get the breech hot enough to release the threads. You can try the hot water first if you want. The last option is to use a hand held propane torch and heat up the breech area. If you do this take off the trigger assembly first. Its not hard to take off. Keep the torch moving so it doesn't turn you stainless slightly blue but if that happens you can polish it out. If you decide you don't want to attempt this you can call Savage and send it back in and they will remove the plug. I can remove it for you also if you want me too. h.h.

Savage has a Message board. You might try posting up over there. Maybe there are people with similar problems. www.savageshooters.com

I haven't had a chance to mess with it again, but I will keep you posted. Thanks for the help to this point though!

I agree with h.h.
For years I've used Kroil and PB Blaster mostly for rusted/stuck/vintage motorcyle fasteners. I've also used it successfully to remove quite a few breech plugs including mine, friends, and referrals. I do all I can to avoid heat. If I ever come to a situation where I cannot remove a breech plug, I will take it to a good gunsmith before opting for the torch.
Here are a few other tricks I've used: 1. I usually soak and clean the area with Carb cleaner. Sometimes, I will also blast the area with compressed air after it has soaked for a few minutes. If you do this - wear safety glasses and shield the area carefully. Many times - this alone will free the plug - if not go to the Kroil or PB Blaster and follow h.h. advice. 2. Before you ever attempt to "loosen" a bolt or breech plug, attempt to "tighten" it. I usually tap a ratchet or wrench sharply. Sometimes, I interchange to a metric or standard socket as one may fit a bit tighter. It seems odd to "tighten" a rusted tight fastener or plug, but it usually works. Before attempting to loosen the plug, spray a little more Kroil or PB Blaster and let it soak in.
Also, if you're interested, feel free to PM me and we'll exchange address/phone. I'm on the south side of Indy and will probably be near Martinsville this weekend (or you can come by my place). If you don't have the plug removed by then I'll be happy to give you a hand.
We can probably get that dude out just fine.
If not, we'll refer back to h.h.

jajwrigh,
After you get it out use telfon pipe tape along with the breech lube on the threads when you put it back and make sure you do the same for the ventliner. While you got it out drill out the carbon in the breech plug. There is a link in the "tips and hints" section at dougs for doing this. h.h.

I just put some Kroil down the barrel and left it muzzle up, so I will check on it tomorrow evening. How much was I supposed to use?

If you are like me then you probably used more than enough. Make sure you hold in when trying to break it free so you dont bugger up the tool end.
One other way that works great is to weld a nut on the end of your breech plug wrench and use an impact wrench. Turn the air down so it hammer and the plug will usually come right out. I have confidence the Kroil will work. h.h.

Got the tape and the never seize stuff, so will do for sure. I need to get this all resolved soon because I am shooting a new bullet this year and want to get everything dialed in before October.

Had a fried hold the muzzle loader and I lightly tapped the breech plug removal tool into the notches and I got the breach plug out!! No damage to the threads or the plug either!! What a relief...

Kroil and 'Blaster are good, but Liquid Wrench has a relatively new product out that's called "Free All" that's even better. We've pretty much made the switch over to it at work- it works on things that 'Blaster won't even touch. To top it off, Free All smells a heck of a lot better!
