how do you get a snake ot two to move out of a shed? i got one big garter snake and now he must have him a girlfriend that have been living in my tool shed.left them alone; but they are not taking care of the mice either' so now that the big one has a girlfriend i suspect there will be more.really dont want to kill them but think its time for them to move on and go with some d-con.

A Garter snake? You big girl.... Garter snakes don't "have a girlfriend", they breed in early Spring, and they're totally harmless. My youngest son accidentally discovered a den of roughly a dozen Copperheads while tearing down an old chicken coop for me a few years ago, count your blessings.

Get in that shed and catch them by hand, then put them somewhere else down the road. Maybe in your neighbors shed.

2 years ago my Brother- in- law had a garter snake hanging around the ramp to his basement and it gave birth to little ones. The little ones were small enough to crawl through a crack in the basement doorjam and he ended up with a house full of snakes. They ended up killing 38 snakes in a week and when they did some research they found that they are capable of giving birth of up to 50 babies.

So the real reason for wanting to move them now comes out... LOL.... You don't want to get up off the sofa to get the weedeater out of the shed so your wife can finish mowing the lawn... I understand.... Most Garter snakes are not mean so you should be able to even catch it by the tail. But if you want I can send my little sister over to help you out... LOL.. Just had to fun with you. I want to say I saw somethign at Rural King the other day that you could put out and it would make the snake leave... Also have heard moth balls work. Never tried it because I keep a rat snake around for the mice in my garage(unatached to the house) Oh and wife doesn't know about it either... LOL.. BB

With all of the black rat snakes I have skinned, I have never found a mouse in any of their stomachs. I'm sure they eat them, but I haven't seen it. What I usually find is a stomach full of little rabbits. I think they find the nest, and eat all of the babies.

Well rat snakes are good on the birds as well. That most what we use them for around all the over hang buildings and stuff where the birds like to nest and then poop on all the stuff under them... So the rat snake works well for that. Black snakes are good too but a little more agressive. BB

My wife read an article a week or so back about a house in Iowa that was overtaken with garter snakes. At least she thinks it was Iowa. Anyway, she said there thousands of snakes in and around this house. They tried to have them exterminated and actually went bankrupt trying to get rid of them. I found that a little strange but whatever. Bottom line is they had to leave the house. I would have to take it down the road.

Dr T's Snake Away. found at most farm n feed stores, home depot, lowes etc. Its a safe sulphur based product that interferes with the "jacobsons organ" ( the holes in a snakes mouth that it uses to sense prey and smell. when the flick their tongue out, it captures air particles and is inserted into the organ) and they avoid it. Pet and human safe. www.drtsnatureproducts.com/I used it often when I had my Animal Damage Control business...and was never re-called to a location where it was applied. Its a granulated powder you sprinkle around the area you want protected and around house foundations
