so my wife decided she wants to go away for Christmas to a cabin somewhere in IN or maybe IL
Been looking and most of the state parks are already booked up...I need some help!
Any suggestions, perhaps a hunting lodge or someplace like that that also rents cabins after the season is over??
Thanks in advance for any ideas!!

I'll sell you my river cabin in Montezuma! It will be smack dab in the middle of the greenway when all the property is bought up by the state! Then you can vacation every weekend in Parke Co!

I know you said most of the dnr cabins are booked but the ones at new harmony are very nice if available. Also I'm not sure of their schedule but there is a set of cabins in IL called The Old Squat Inn. They are reconstructed 100-150 year old cabins. They are near Crab Orchard and Renn Lake, my wife and I enjoyed staying there it's like a bed and breakfast only you have your own cabin.

You picked the second busiest season for that, good luck. Raporter is right about those cabins by Patoka, the ones I've seen were pretty nice. If you really want seclusion check out lakedream.com near Garfield, Ky., my wife and I stayed there a few years back. The cabins are great, and they all have a hot tub and a small pontoon type fishing boat, a couple even have a deck overhanging the lake if you don't fancy fishing from the little boat. Make sure they charged the battery for the trolling motor before going out though, I had to paddle mine back with a plate of bark I snagged from a floating branch. They didn't have cable or satellite tv when we stayed there, but this may have changed since then. The fishing on their tiny lake was crappy at the time, but they've stocked it since then from what I've heard. Hunting is not allowed, not even bow. You probably won't get cell reception either unless a tower has gone up lately. A buddy of mine owns a bar just down the road in Vine Grove, it's probably about the best of show for that area, and if you get cabin fever Brandenburg is a short drive.

We stayed in a cabin on the IN side of the Ohio river a few years ago down around Cannelton. Actually a beautiful area to stay. I was just as entranced with sitting and watching the barge traffic on the river as the views across the valley. Here's the link for the company that rents the cabin where we stayed: www.coluccirivercabins.com/default.aspx?mod=cabins&rel=yinyang

And just east of Cannelton on the river is Derby and i've seen several signs and cabins through that area also.
