I have been working 3rd shift for about the last 3 years and have hated it the whole time. I just found out this morning that I got a 1st shift job (with the same company). I can't express how excited I am that finally get to start sleeping in my own bed at night. Start the new job in about 2 weeks.

Congrats. The only good thing I can say about 3rd shift is I don't have take time off to haul the kids to appointments and I get to go to school activies in the evening. When they added a shift we had the choice of 2nd or third, we choose third.

Good for you. Now you can have a normal life. I recently got passed over for a dayshift job that should have been mine. It will be at least a few more years before I get another chance.

Awesome news!!!
I did 2 years on nights and hated it . I was lucky my kids were just babies and that shift didn't really bother their routine. When I got on 1st shift was about the time they started baseball, basketball and football and that made it nice. I didn't miss their activities... Enjoy your new day routine.

Congrats! Night shift isn't so bad if you can acclimate yourself to it. One thing for sure is less mgmt involved!

Idealy i would like day shift but i work thirds and love it. You dont miss a thing, i get home at 645 am and leave for work at 10, i dont miss any of the kids activities and if they have something during the day at school i can make that also.

Working 3rds, I go in at 11 and I get off at 7:30. I will usually go right to bed when I get home and get up between 3-5 range. All depends on how tired I am. I got married a year ago in June with no kids so it wasn't too bad. I just felt tired all of the time. The weekends are a pain switching back to normal hours so I worked through a lot of weekends. I know a lot of guys have it a lot worse than me but I will be happy to get back to a normal routine.

My dad worked at GM for 32 years. Of that 32 years he was on 3rd shift all but one. He had around 25 years in when he thought he would try 1st shift. He tried it and hated it. After his year trial he went back to thirds until he retired.
I have been fortunate in that I have always worked 1st shift. I don't know that I could take a night shift but I would do what I had to do, like it or not.
