So I'm stuck here in the hospital, and I need to kill time by encouraging my forum buddies to waste their time answering my posts! ;D Thanks in advance.
I have a ruger 10-22 rifle in stainless steel. It's not the carbine, sporting a significantly longer barrel and a no barrel band. I bought mine at wally world years ago and from what wikipedia tells me they still sell it exclusively, which might help you all figure out the gun I have. (being here I can't post any pics)
The gun functions very reliably and already groups pretty well for an out-of-the-box rifle, so I want to do it justice and fix it up proper.
I plan to buy an aftermarket trigger, as the production one is the typical lawyer-mandated 500 lb version.
I also plan to put a good scope on it.
What else can I/should I do?
Let me have it.

First & most important, We all hope your Son is recovering well. Now concerning your Ruger 10/22. I remember reading that Ruger made a special run of their 10/22's for Wal-Mart back in the late 90's. So it might have collector's value, but I don't know. If you're wanting to replace the trigger, www.midwayusa.com has just about any brand of replacement triggers you would need. Some, though require that a qualified Gunsmith install them, but there are also parts you can buy that will modify your factory trigger too. Hope this helps.

If you aren't already aware of this site www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/index.phpit is a wellspring of info on all things rimfire. I don't have a 10/22 but I picked up helpful tips for my Rem. 597. And, still praying for your son to have a speedy recovery.

You're welcome and please do keep us all up-to-date on your Son's medical condition. I know what you mean about forums, as they are quite helpful. I know I would be VERY LONELY without access to them. Sometimes I have the feeling that "Hoosiers", that move to Ky, aren't all that welcome. Been here three years, this comming July 2nd, and really don't know anyone outside the few neighbors I have, and then I just see them very seldom. VERY different life from what I had, living in Evansville. People here are friendly but hard to get to know.

Are you going for a certain look or are you just looking for a committee build? Remember camels are horses built by committee.
I can't wait to put a Tactical Solutions barrel on mine, but that's just me.

(Within reason...no multi-position stocks or anything too wild) Basically what ideas does everyone have? Y'all might come up with something that never crossed my mind.

I think those are the 2 most important ones right there. A barrel would probably be next on my list.

My Brother bought a Ruger 77/22 LR & the barrel is threaded into the action unlike the older model where the barrel was held by two screws.

I don't have a 10/22 and I don't believe I have ever shot one, but I think the most common things I see are the barrel, an extended magazine release and an aftermarket trigger.
