I have to keep my bass boat in storage and keep having racoons get up under my cover and distroying my boat. This is third time I've had this problem. The damage to my holds was so bad this time that I have to replace all the carpeting! Now they are using my seat as a toilet!!!Does anyone have any suggestions how to deter or repel them?Talked to the owner today and he says he has traped over 40 last year so that won't solve problem.Any help would be great. Thanks

The easiest solution is to find a different place to store your boat. Any extra expenditure for storage would likely be a savings based on damage repairs and/or any sort of deterrent....

The only thing that I think might work is to dump a couple (heck, get 1/2 dz) boxes of mothballs under the tarp. I'd put them in 12" x 12" plastic tubs and scatter the tubs all over the boat. If it's under the cover, they will smell stronger.
I'd also give the boat a very good cleaning (if you aren't doing so) before storing it. They might be looking for the fish that they are smelling.

Yea I was going to suggest taking the carp chunks out. Sounds like a problem area and it would be alot cheaper to find a new storage spot. Let the land lord deal with the overpopulation of coons. good luck.

I keep my boat pretty clean.I only bass fish with lures, never use bait and don't keep any fish.I don't know why coons like my boat so much!I will most likely move boat but the closest storage is 20 min away, where I have it now is about 2 min.Just lazy I guess but after ordering $170.00 of new carpet today I think moving is way to go.The new storage area is close to woods too,so I'm afraid the same thing will happen there. Thanks for everyones help.

If you were paying to store your boat there I'd see if the owner is willing to refund you for the damage. He should be responsible for keeping the storage facility free of most pests. Did he have lots of cats and feed the cats outdoors? Just a thought.
If it was a friend or you got a "deal" I think I would stick with the 20 min spot.

the owner is not responsible for damage it's in the contract.I think the coon prob. comes from a waste management site that is not far away.He is not a friend, but has tried to be helpfull by letting me move boat to different areas and trapping coons.I just think he can't keep up.I think once the first coon got in my boat others can smell it's scent and check it out.I have tried cleaning out the holds but hard to get rid of urine smell.I'm gonna disinfect all holds again and replace all carpet, when thats done I'll move boat.

Yep, he knows he has a problem. Just wonder how many others will bring their gear over to his place just to have the coons damage something else. If he really trapped 40 coons he was seriously over populated. I'd be a bit ticked that he didn't tell you there were previous coon problems.
I had a boat that we shot carp out of, catfished, netted shad, you get my drift the carpet got abused with fish slime and blood. I never had a coon get into my boat. Luck of the draw or just stored in areas where the coons were kept in check I don't know.
I'd find a new place muy pronto if he has that kind of vermin problem. Good luck.

I'm with you on the 40 coons. I would think 40 coons in and around this barn, or garage would have diseases running rampant. I can see maybe 10, or so,,, but 40? ?. If you got 40 coons crapping in this area I would be very careful in this building. Their feces can carry some pretty nasty stuff for humans after it had dried out and the dust is breathed in.

The storage area is a paved outdoor, fenced in lot.I don't know the owner personaly.when he told me he trapped 40 coons he might have been trying to impress me or calm me.I was pretty mad when I spoke to him.I am kind of worried about the feces, there was alot on the boat.I wore gloves and disifected as best I could.I don't know any other people storing things on the lot,but I haven't heard of anyone else having a problem. As soon as I get new carpet in I'm out of there!
