I absolutely love St Clair. Second to none for Smallie Fishing. I know whitetail1 fishes the same areas as I do and he's pretty knowledgeable. I'm sure he'll set you straight. I fished it twice last year and would go more if gas wasn't so dang expensive. It's a big lake at nearly 500 square miles. Gotta watch the weather. Most fishing is done way off shore. I headed back this May and sure I'll go in October again. The lake doesn't have much for structure. Weedbeds and shipwrecks are key It is such a great fishery. If you need additional info please feel free to PM me.

I've fished in late June and it's alot tougher to find fish. You won't get the numbers like you will in Spring and Fall. Fish can be found but you have to work at it. The only deep water is really the shipping channels. Finding current and boulders are likely spots. You'll burn gas running around looking though. I'd imagine that September could be better than July and August.
I used to in live Mass for 17 years. Fished Winni and Squam many times. Those lakes are great smallie lakes. However I've never seen a lake produce numbers and size like St.Clair does.

I lived in western Mass. most of my life. All my family still lives there.I have to say I do miss the clear, rocky lakes of new england.I would love to get the boy's to go up and try st.claire, but my dad is 86 and not much for long trips.Even for fishing, wich he still loves! It will be up to my wife when we go.AS long as I can fish I don't care!

Try to get to St. Clair around Memorial Day. Three of us left the Tuesday night after memorial day and fished Wed and Thurs all day. We caught tons of 4 pounders, a 5.3 and a 6.0 (weighed on boga). Went back third week of June. Caught fish, but lots deeper and tougher.

I would like to go that time of year, but thats when I go to N.H. to fish with my family. This trip is for my wife and I.She doesn't fish much, prefers to get some sun and read while I fish.Trying to find info on cabin or house rentals, but not having much luck online. We don't want to stay in hotel, like to cook own meals and have a dock so don't have to trailer boat everyday.Want to go for a week so need place with shore power to charge boat batteries. There doesn't seem to be much available, but I'm still looking.

Sorry, it is tough around there. Not much high quality camping in Detroit! There is nothing close I know of either.

If you are looking for a place to stay on the lake, try calling the people at Angler's Pointe Marina. They are on the lake right next to the launch at Selfridge. They have an apartment that they rent out. I don't know their rates or how nice it is, just know that they rent it out on a weekly basis. They are really nice people there. If you go to their website, you can view photos of the apartment on their facebook page. Looks nice from what I've seen. www.anglerspointmarina.com/Or you can call them at 586-949-9223

We stay at the Extendastay Hotel in Roseville. Nice clean, peaceful, two king beds. Also has kitchen with stove, microwave and fridge. Room runs abut $52 a night. Right across the road from Texas Roadhouse! Minutes from the ramp at Crocker. The only camping at the lake I know of is Algonac State Park in Marine City Mi. It's actually on the St. Clair river and your minutes from the lake by boat. You have to drive to the other side of the lake and sure that adds at least another 90 minutes. I've checked into Anglerspointe before and think it runs about $1200 a week. It sleeps about 6 people. Couple more forums if you need more information... www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=58www.bbcboards.net/zeroforum?id=201
