www.wlfi.com/dpp/news/local/indiana-meth-crime-at-all-time-highNot sure what the answer is, but this stuff is bad news. I dealt with it as a CPS worker. Removed many children out of terrible environments, and now im still dealing with it in the pharmacy. Current legislation proposes making it a controlled substance requiring a script, but thats only gonna make the street value go up.

its really bad here in our county. you can pretty much figure that when you get the paper every eve. there will be 2-3 people or more plastered on the front page where they have been caught with meth.some of these people are in their late 50s....actually pretty sad the way this drug takes over a persons life.

Saw in the local rag the other day that my county is one corner if what ISP calls the "Meth Triangle".
And those that met me @ the youth hunt wondered why I'm such a freak. :-)

I'll never understand why people even try something that they know will screw their life up. When I was a kid it was heroin, no brainer there, yet idiots still stuck that spike into their vein. Then came free base cocaine, smoke a little and the next thing you know everything you had is gone. Next came crack and PCP, you knew that if you did them they would destroy your life, yet once again fools dived in with both feet. Meth is a known life destroyer, yet the fools willing to try it seem to be out in force.

One huge thing at my school is pills. Sometimes you'll see a kid pay 20 dollars for 2 oxicotin. I prefer to spend my hard earned money on rounds of trap and skeet. And girl scout cookies

And girl scout cookies Another big thing with teenage drug abuse is "skittles". Kids will bring a bunch of "unknown" medicaton from home and everyone dump it in a big bowl and take whatever you grab. REAL smart

yea pills are extremely dangerous. Kids think that since they are perscribed by a doctor then they are safe. . . but they aren't. The doctors are bad about over perscribing pills too. My best friend from highschool had a bunch of medical issues. His doctors over perscribed him pain pills and he got hooked. He used to be a good kid. Now he is just a junkie. Haven't talked to him in years because of it. We would hunt and fish all the time, he was a hard worker, saved up money and had a bunch of really nice guns, bought a brand new fully decked out matthews bow. He sold everything he had so he could buy pills illegally because the pills his doctors were perscribing him weren't enough. Last I heard he had a kid and was living on disability and still a junkie.

As far as meth goes... and I know it sounds rough...I believe that anyone caught with dealer quantities or with a lab gets the choice of life in prison without parole or death! The damage that is done needs to be stopped.

If you read the newspaper, almost everyday there are things in it related to meth.

The damage that is done needs to be stopped. I know this drug is bad problem in our society and has really screwed up a lot of peoples lives, but alcohol has screwed up more lives, killed more of people than meth, or any drug known to man ever will and the general public accepts this. WHY? As far as making the over the counter cold pills mandatory prescription. I hope it doesn't happen. I have allergies very bad. I was laid off from my job 7 month ago and lost my insurance. I was taking prescription medication for my allergies. I can not afford the Allegra I was taking now without insurance and the only thing that works close to what the Allegra did is Sudephed that I can buy over the counter after showing an ID and signing a log book. Yes, I sometimes am looked at and made to feel like I'm a criminal when buying it and also you are limited to how much I can get in a months time, but it still beats the high price of going to a doctor and getting a prescription for what now cost 6 bucks.

Abso-freaking-lootly - I am afraid they will make it impossible for the law abiding citizen to do anything. Don't we jump through enough hoops to get cold medicine? Won't those tweekers get what they need however they can? Make it harder and more expensive for the average Joe's of this world. Not my idea of a fix...

The powers that be have never quite figured out the laws are only for the law abiding. To do any sort of control of the law breaking mandatory sentencing must be employed. Meth cooks will figure out how to get around just about anything. Pink dye was added to anhydrous to help cut down on theft for use in meth, and the cooks have found another avenue to get the ingredients they need from instant cold packs. Does that mean we will have to get refills for our first aide kits from behind the pharmacy counter in the near future?

Although Alcohol does do bad things to plenty of people, there are plenty of folks who can drink responsibly and have no probelms, committ no crimes, and hurt no one. You can't say the same about meth. People can die from their FIRST dose of meth. There are no such things as "casual or social" meth users. The violence and potentially for catastrophic (explosive) consequences from manufacture have no equals among any of our common drugs. Simply put, meth is the uber evil among drugs in my opinion. Ask any LEO about the difference between Meth-heads and drunks or weed smokers. I believe you will hear that it is night and day.
