I can tell you from my checkstation total numbers were down about 30 not that many bucks during archery season a few more during firearms but still not as many as I would have thought with the crops coming in early but most of the bucks checked were good quality. I'm in Grant county

Another site reports Indiana had a record harvest again. Official numbers haven't been released yet by the DNR. h.h.

Last I heard , it would be march before we had final number's. Once again we are one of the last state's to get harvest number's. Guess DNR to busy working on new proposal's!!!!!

Apparently we're supposed to settle on the plan to reduce the herd numbers BEFORE we learn whether the current plan has already reduced them more than we want.

No deer reduction plan is supposed to meet it's goals in one year, more less before its even enacted.

So much for many of you thinking this year was going to be a down year.

So much for many of you thinking this year was going to be a down year. So much for those who thought it would be a big increase as well! 1% ain't squat! And some counties were down, some were up . But the Rifles {a new weapon} for those who poo pooed that new weapons will not add much deer to the harvest jumped huge and so did ML as well shotgun was down a bit. So I guess new weapons do add to the totals .So bring on the crossbows now they have their proof that the current dates and seasons, and new weapons work to add to the harvest over time. I now understand that EHD was the problem where I hunt since they added the counties I hunt to the EHD hit list . So I guess some areas and hunters did see less deer than others for good reason so there goes your theory that there are more deer every where in the state Tickman you might do well to beleive what other hunters who do not live next door to you say they see and dont. Just saying there is more area in the state than where you hunt or county and not haveing or seeing a bunch of deer does not mean they are wrong or not good hunters..

This was the first year I seen good numbers since EHD. 3yrs ago we had good bucks on camera, when rumors started hitting the bucks went cold turkey and we didnt see any of the bucks we had on camera during hunting season. This was the first year we started seeing a rebound.

Not real surprising.
Not sure how reliable the "rifle" numbers are from year to year considering there was no "rifle" option on the paperwork in past years ... was there even a "rifle" option this year or did they fill it in manually whenever they felt like it?

Yes there was this year and also our check station up here had it on the paper works had it on there last year I saw it

Paper work must vary across the state then because my check station did not have a rifle option on the 2009 books.

I agree with everyone that says it will only make a small impact. I pulled up the 2009 numbers for the Princess & I was surprised how small the PCR numbers are. I don't believe you will see the vertical bow shooters change hardly at all. However, even if you only draw in a relitively small number of new kids or women, we need all the new hunters we can get so I'm for it. I don't think the late doe season is going to produce much of an increase. People aren't going to change the number they want to take. The number of deer killed with PCRs is not a very good indicator. In years past the check in books did not even have PCRs listed on the form. The check station operators were told to "pencil it in" if a deer was taken by a PCR hunter. How often do you think that happened? Since the DNR wanted to save money by not buying any more books until the old ones were used up next year will be the first year that "rifle" will have a check box. This will be at all stations. This year the new books were at 80% of the stations. I knew I had seen Woody post something about this before ....... I dont remember if my 2010 kill was logged under rifle but I know for a fact my 2009 kill wasnt.

1% with most counties increasing antlerless quota's. Tell's me herd as a whole is stable. Most counties in Northern Indiana had increase with several southern counties showing decrease. So even though I personally saw fewer antlerless deer this past season, about what I expected.

Unlike many hunters I do not base success on the number of deer I see. The areas I hunt are heavily grown up with limited visibility. I will be lucky to see 5 deer during anytime I am in the woods and most of those are going and coming to the stand. Too many hunters have no woodsmanship and the best thing they can do is whine about not seeing deer.

my primary county I hunt is Blackford. Blackford county total kill numbers are around 400 to 450 most years. This year the total kill was 302. This is down 141 from last year, over 30% less. My sons and I hunted hard and saw markedly less deer this season. I consider us to be better than average hunters. I am not whining about not seeing the deer numbers others have seen. We never do. However we saw no deer after opening weekend of gun season and are still not seeing any which is disturbing. We saw two opening day and six running across an open field the afternoon of the second day and none after that. Usually see a few in the late MZ season but not this year. So I feel that this is one county in the state that doesn't have an out of control deer herd. My opinion that the deer numbers are down where I hunt is based on my direct observations and backed up by the kill numbers.

This was the first year we started seeing a rebound. I heard that this comming Spring/Summer seasons are going to WARMER than normal & DRIER than normal, for the midwest. This is due to "La Nina". Also late Spring freezes are a great possibility. Hope they are wrong as this might cause EHD to return to the areas, with little mast production.

Of all the concerns that a deer manager has, I'd imagine EHD is one of the least.
