Well, long and short of it my dad who had a fractured disk fix back in December killed a monster RIO and a 2 year old and I killed nothing. We were hunting with Pretty Boy and Girl and we had roosted several birds on Friday night, and his first bird was killed about 20 minutes after light and his second bird was killed about 1 hour later. We couldn't even get to 2 of the farms due to the 10+ inches of rain they recievd Wed to Friday. Roads were closed and water covered, etc. It cleared up 1 hoour before dark on Friday and we roosted about 10 gobblers. Before light gobbling was going nuts and a big 4 to 5 year old bird came across the field by hiself gobbling, strutting, etc. He then spotted Pretty Boy and it looked like a commercial and he ran straight in and made a 360 around the decoy then gobbled then jumped on top of Pretty Boy and spurred the whiz out of it and finally Pretty Boy finally died (fell of off the stake) and he jumped off. Then my ol man hammered him. All said and done he killed a bird with abut 1" spurs and a double beard with equal diameter bearded bird with about 9.5" of length. Weight about 17 lbs. A stud for a Rio and Texas especially. More to come plus pics, plus my experiences for the last 2 days.
Here is my experience, could have hammered a bearded hen. I had a bird that was scared to death of Pretty Boy that would close the distance and I had a bird that came up behind me and I couldn't shoot. Fun, but nothing killed!
