Well, Im 34 and I think grandpa's genes caught up with me. BP has been running 160/112. Put on about 12lbs over the last year, havent been working out as much, my first born due April 3rd, looking for a house, graduation in may, and then state boards. Id say its time for some stress managment! Being a future pharmacist in May I never really thought about "what" im taking and if I "trust" my pharmacist. Shed a little light to say the least when I had to get a script filled....
Also, I know this may be too frugal but anyone every use "cloth" diapers?? lol...

Lose the weight and watch your diet and stress, you don't want to go on blood pressure meds if it can be avoided.

LOL.... My parents used them for all of us kids (8) and honestly I would use them if my wife would. But she is to dainty LOL... it will be a hit on the pocket book if you don't use them... I have three kids in either diapers or pullups... LOL.... The pullups aren't as bad since the boy can actually use them for a couple day's each if he is good. But man can the baby go through diapers... LOL... Don't forget the wipes too.... They will cost you as well... LOL... But no reason to stress about that stuff... Kids are great and worth every cent... Hopefully the fun you have will help your stress level... Now if it's a girl just plan on having the big one in 16-17 years... LOL......... That's when that vain in every dad's forhead pops.... LOL BB

Please don't take that BP lightly. I had a very slight stroke a few years back that, according to the Doc, was attributable to high BP. It truly is a "silent killer."
As for cloth diapers, your post resurrected a distinct "aroma" from somewhere in my memory banks. The "diaper pail" seemed to be a fixture in every home that had little ones.
And, yes, they do make for good burp cloths and general purpose rags.

I have the same issue with family genes. Have to control BP, cholesterol, and tri-glycerides. I don't like taking the meds but beats the alternative. I had a double-bypass at the age of 47. Thankfully no heart attack, just a warning that got me to the doctor. As others have said, take this seriously
As for cloth diapers, we used them for both of our girls. That has been a while since they are now 28 and 26 years old. My brother-in-law thought it was ridiculous and said they would never use cloth. I told him that was their perogative. They worked for us and saved us a ton of money. As someone said, some folks are too dainty to use them. That was my b-i-l and his wife's issue. They thought it was gross.

Well, Ive always ran and worked out but since clinicals started a year ago Ive been busting my tail for free. I realize I gotta make time and thats no excuse so Its time for some lifestyle changes and deal with some external stressors (whole diff story). Funny...the BP has been controlled over the last few days, and the medicine doesnt act that quick.. Yep, little girl will be here April 3rd. Well, mom is "dainty" as well and im not sure shes on board. I told her I would do the laundry if we did. Regardless, told her she can buy the diapers out of her money and I will provide the cloth ones. As long as the childs needs are met thats all that matters. Im finishing up school and have goals and anyway I can cut expenses Im going to. Besides I tell her my grandmother raised 10 kids on cloth diapers..that went over well

Congrats on the April arrival .....
I have been lucky thus far and havent had to deal with the high BP ... im sure the day will come though because both my parents struggle with high BP.
I started running a half marathon one time a year a couple of years ago so that got me back into running at least part of they year. I just got back in the gym (after waaaay to many years away) last week.
Been lucky in the fact I dont really have trouble dealing with stress .... even though my Dr. says that stress has to be a factor in my migraines. I tell him Im honestly not stressed and he tells me I am but just dont realize it .... lol. Whatever.
I would rather get ahead of whatever potential problems are coming my way because I also do not want to rely on daily meds. and I dont think I will have the willpower to drastically change my diet if/when Im told to.
The cloth diaper thing .... wow. Handling those things for the brief period of time it took to throw them away was bad enough for me.

The benefits of using HBP meds far outweigh the risk of side effects. It's an easy fix that will save you in the long run.

Congrats on the baby in April and congrats on pharmacy school. I work with several Pharmacists and a good friend's wife is in Pharmacy school right now. I think she graduates in May, too. Tough course and cudos to you for getting it done.
Good luck with the BP and the diapers.

Some medications can cause high BP..
Even though my dad died at age 72 with a congestive heart failure I have always has good BP. Pure Kentucky man that smoked since he was 11, liked his bourbon and ate bacon and eggs with redeye gravy every morning of his life.
My BP is usually 125 over 72.
My wife has high BP and is on medication for it. The Doc wanted her to start taking her own blood pressure at home to monitor it. So, we bought her one of those monitors that fits on her wrist so she could do her own.
When we got it home we worked with it so she was comfortable taking her own BP.
I then slapped on my wrist to take mine. Totally shocked me that it was 150 over 85.
I thought well I must have done something wrong.
The next day I tried it again and it was 170 over 94. WHOA! I tried it again and got 169 over 98. Double WHOA!
Not good.. I tried to think why it should be that high and the only thing I could think of was I started taking Mobic daily a couple months ago. I called and got an appointment to see my doctor’s Nurse Practioner the next day. I also looked up the side effects of Mobic. Yep…Could cause cardio vascular problems. I quit taking it.
The next day the BP was 150 over 84. Better, but not good enough
The NP told me that the Mobic could cause that and advised me to get off of it for awhile. She also ordered a blood test for kidney function as Mobic could affect my kidneys too. That checked out OK.
I’ve been off of Mobic for 8 days now and my BP is back to 129 over 74.
I will see her again this Friday, but no doubt it was the Mobic raising mine up.
The pain that was relieved by the Mobic has not come back so far. If it does we can try a reduced dosage or another anti-inflammatory.

Not since Woodmaster was in them and he is pushing 49.

It sucks and I have fought it for years. Did the weight lose thing and diet change still to high. Tried all kinds of meds with bad side effects... EXFORGE seems to work and the side effects aren't too bad

Disposable diapers are alot cheaper than a divorce or even stressing out your relationship with your wife over it. It might help releave some of your stress too. There is alot of stress involved with having a child. Lack of sleep, alot of crying, changing diapers, cleaning up, not sure if your little one is sick or just gassy, the changes both emotional and hormonal that your wife will experience after giving birth, and a whole host of other things to worry about the few extra dollars spent on disposable diapers soon becomes low on your list of priorities. At least it did with my 2 kids. Nothing like them in the world. Congrats on everything that is going your way right now take care of yourself so you can take care of that little one on it's way!

We use Cloth diapers for the night time diaper Lyman. They are the newer style, not the old fashioned ones. The rest of the time we use disposable.
I had high blood pressure until I stared training Judo. I'm down 70 lbs since we moved to Okinawa and all the cardio blasted my blood pressure back down to normal.

Bottom line is. Don't worry about the cloth poop pants. Take care of your BP so you can be a dad for many years to come. Its nothing to screw around with. Lost my dad when I was only 22 because of it. He was only 52. I'm going to everything I can to stick around for my kids as long as I can. Plus I want to live longer than the old man so I can rib him about it when the time comes. Lol
Don't dicouraged if one med doesn't work. There are tons of options out there. I'm trying to get off them but the reality is I probably will never be able to completly. I can't even see what I'm typing on this stupid phone. Excuse the typos

I started BP meds back in 2003, after having severe heat exhaustion, and severe dehydration at work.Last year in Feb, BP went to 165/117 and had severe headaches, all over and burning sensation in the eyse, shortness of breath, had a friend was a heart surgeon, got me in the next day and ran test, and I mean test, I think they did 5 different test and everything seemed fine in the heart, arteries, valves, etc. put me on 3 diff. meds and it dropped in 4 days, now down to 2, and keep it down with plenty of water, maybe 60 oz. a day and a 20 ox gatorade, but I also lose about 8 pounds, also put me on a waterpill. Still need to loose more weight, it is not that bad, I am thankfull for my friend the Heart surgeon, now Congressman to be such a helpful man.
Better safe than sorry. My dads side of family all died from heart problems.
