Got email back today from Mitch Marcus (Wildlife section Cheif) in response to an email I sent regarding tele-check. "Is Indiana considering changing our current deer check in system over to a Tele-check system anytime soon? I particulatily like Tennesee's current system???" Mitch Marcus response " The department was asked by NRC to explore tele-check harvest system in 2009. I would anticipate dept. to furthur explore implenting such a system when fiscal time's improve." So does'nt look like soon but headed in that direction.

It's already been approved, just lacks funding.

There are options to donate a portion of ones tax return on the tax forms now. Could a box be added for Telecheck, and would people be willing to pony up a little?

When the new license structure is implemented, add an appropriate [?] amount to fund the telecheck system. It can be used for deer, turkey, geese, duck, vulgar and obscene comments, and anything else the desk jockeys could think of.

Somebody find out how much it will take, maybe we can pass the hat or they could designate the new crossbow tax to the cause?

It may (or may not) cost a lot to run the system once its in place, but the initial start up costs would probably be substantial. Every agency in the state was required to slash their budgets last year, IIRC Jack mentioned a 10% reduction for the DNR, so why would you consider the lack of funds to be B.S?

Telecheck would be nice, and I understand why some of you guys need it, but it's a non-issue for me, checking in a deer isn't a problem for me.

Sine the DNR already has a web-site how about just adding a page to check your deer in online? Cost would be low and the info could just flow directly into the current database.

I don't need telecheck either, but it would give the puppet more useful, even on demand, harvest information. With all the new cash flow with the new proposals, it's BS that they won't/don't have the funds for it. But yet have the funds to pay top dollar for a state employee to sort through tags to come up with an estimated harvest.
More and more it seems to me, the DNR isn't going to do anything that would better the system without them being able to spin a buck out of it.

I still remember when Ky. went to telechek. Ome of the main selling point was to save thousands of dollars per year. What's changed since then?

$75,000.00 for start up, 200,000 deer licenses sold, 37.5 cents per license. Add in turkey license and the cost drops even further. Raise the price of those license by $0.50. System is now in place and paid for in one year. Problem?

Would be less expensive than current system I would think. Only issue i could see would be vendor's complaining about lost revenue's??? Hardly ever check a deer in without buying something from the store. (Pop,beer, ice sandwhich, gas etc.) So check station's might complain. On the flip side it's a pain in the rear for them to deal with the paperwork BS. So on second thought they may not mind.

NRC meeting at the Bryant Creek Shelter House, Morgan Monroe State Forest, 2009. Exact wording should be in the minutes.
