Doesn't surprise me; the LE's seem to be hit and miss with rifles from what I've read.

I remember the old days, late 60's, you could buy factory 44 mag ammo specificly designated for rifles or for pistols. Rifle ammo was hotter. You can find differences in some old loading manuals as well.

here is what i came up with on the accuracy and bullet drop from a 44. 75 yard zero is 1 inch high at 50 yards. at 100 yards it was 2 inches low. now for the fun part. at 200 yards it was 6 inches low! for those that said that a 44 drops too much at that range to kill a deer is bull. these shots were laying down shooting off of a bipod. the bullet load was a 240 grain nossler hollow point loaded with 25 grains of lil gun powder. if i could get the pic to load off of my phone i would post it to show the 3 shots. Boonehunter's target... ' .

thanks woody for posting. that is an original size sharpie for size referance. the wind was blowing directly from right to left while shooting with a tad bit of a gust on the 100 yard shot. i was going to shoot at 250 yards just for laughs but couldnt see the x in the scope. after zeroing this rifle these shots were fired without letting the gun cool down other than marking the target and walking back and shooting again. anyone dissagree now that a 44 mag isnt a 200 yard gun with the proper bullet load and powder charge.

For me it would depend on the optics on the particular rifle. Most scope up 44 mags with low power glass, making a 200 yard shot a long poke. If you hav a good higher power scope, I'd say it's doable. Certainly enough power to kill at that range, it's more a matter of hitting what you shoot at.
