Any weapon, any situation. I made a difficult 125 yard shotgun kill on a doe once that I'm pretty proud off, but my best is probably this: We had some dogs pestering ours... nothing that warranted death or serious injury, mind you. They were just being a nuisance. I took to stinging them with a Benjamin-Sheridan pump-up pellet gun, varying the power according to how far away they were. Well, one day they were over in the far corner of the yard, so I pumped the gun up to full power, gave the open sights some serious elevation ( way over the dog's butt) and fired. A second later, the dog hopped and fled. 91 yards, measured by rangefinder! What is your best shot; target practice, hunting, showing off, whatever. START BRAGGING!

Does a shot that is pure luck count? Or do we limit it to something that we can reasonably say we meant to do?
Pure luck .... we had 2 coyotes out in an open field in the neighborhood of 400 yards away. Way to far to shoot one but we figured we would give it a shot. A buddy pulls up and takes a shot at one and they are both off to the races. I led the back dog what seemed like 20 yards, gave him some hold-over, squeezed the trigger on my 22-250 and rolled him. Offhand. Running. 400+/- yards.

I have a few that come to mind. All with multiple witnesses.
1. While dove hunting with Deerrgoats and Yoteslayer, Yote and I being teenaged boys were very competitive. He was one dove up on me, and with my last shotshell, I shot down, and found two doves. Beating him by one dove.
2. Shot the flag off of one of those wire survey flags they use to mark underground utilities with my 10/22 off hand at about 40 yards after my brother told me to try it. You should have seen his jaw drop!
3. While fishing at the river, we were plinking with our .22 pistols when a starling flew buy. Just by reflex, I swung on him and shot him out of the sky with one shot. I claimed that I meant to do it, but I was more surprised than my companions!
All of these shots involved a little skill, and a HUGE amount of luck!

This "shot" has to be my best/luckiest:
Back on the farm in the late 70's, my friends and cousins were over and we began one of our infamous throwing contests. This basically amounted to challenging each other to hitting various targets with a rock. For some crazy reason, I piped up and hollered that I'd take everybody when the next pigeon flew by.
Sure enough, the next fly by had me in a not-so-good Ted Abernathy windup (one of my favorite Cubbies in the late 60's who pitched sidearm or submarine as we called it) and
Wham! Down came that pigeon! We all stood around shocked at first and then, in the blink of an eye, Tom, our farm cat pounced and that was all she wrote!
With all my shots with many different weapons - I'll never forget that one! Thanks for bringin' back a cool memory Sas!

A friend stopped by one day, and asked what I was shooting at. I had an old 22 rifle in my hand at the time that I was amusing myself with, and I replied, shooting carpenter bees as they come out of that hole up there in the barn. Yea right he says. So one flies out, and I knock it right out of the sky. He looks at me in amazement as I blast four or five more without a miss! He walks off shaking his head. Had he of looked at the empty 22 casings on the ground he would of seen that they were 22 shot shells! ;D

Dropped a coyote that was on a dead run away from me with a Ruger 22/45 pistol, stepped it off at just over 75 yards.
One for the "pure luck" category- was squirrel hunting once with Dad's .410 single shot probably 18-20 years ago, shot a squirrel and was a bit surprised when TWO of them fell from the tree. Didn't even know the second one was there!

Does anyone else remember dove hunting in Gibson County back in the mid 80's? Speaking of killing two squirrels with one shot .... I remember several times killing 3 or more doves with a single shot.
I wasnt even a teenager yet .....
There were more doves than a guy could count in that county during those years.

Best shot ever was with a Bow a year or so ago in KY , I shot a Doe that was down in the creek at 53 yards ranged when we recovered her. I was in a tree stand pretty high up and the creek bed was a good 10 or 12 foot drop from the bank. I shot thru a window of canopy. I told myself that the bank was the furthest I was gonna shoot but when I drew back the shot just felt right so I let it fly. Double Lung Best Gun shot was a quick moving buck at Leiber Park during the Opening Day of Gun with my Muzzle loader. It wasnt that far mabey 60 yards but he was on a sprint.. One shot one kill My Aunt Diana dropped a nice buck at 125 yards with a 20 gauge and open sights at our old property , I thought that was a pretty good shot

That would have to be a nice 7 pointer I took in firearm season a dozen years ago. I was stand hunting and heard a steady grunting and leaf shuffling heading my way. I located the source of the noise as being a doe followed close behind by two bucks moving perpendicular to me at a steady trot. I chose the largest of the two bucks, looked ahead in the direction of their travel, and picked out an opening in the woods to take the shot. As he entered the opening, I shot twice, with iron rifle sights off a 20" smooth bore shotgun barrel at 90 yds. Both shots were fatal. Some would call this unethical, but I knew I could make the shot and I did.

Years ago when I was in college and working at a feed store, one of the guys that I worked with was a "billy bad butt" type of guy that could always do everything better than anyone else. One day after dove season came in, he was talking about wanting to go dove hunting and about what an amazing shot he was. Knowing that I loved to hunt, he asked if I wanted to go dove hunting and he could show me how great he was with a shotgun. Being the brash young man that I was, I replied that I could kill more doves than him just throwing rocks. About that time, a dove flies in and lands on a cable line about 10-15 yards away. In one motion I bent down, picked up a rock and threw it as hard as I could. You guessed it....I hit the dove in the head and killed it dead. We both stood there for a second in disbelief, then I smiled and told him when he could kill them with rocks to let me know and until then, he should keep his mouth shut. I couldn't do that again in 10 years of tries. ;D

It's a toss up:
1) Dove hunting. A dove was flying directly at me, on it's way overhead. I shot and it started falling. I put out my hand and caught it without having to take a step.
2) When I was a kid, there was a roaming dog that crapped in the front yard on a pretty regular basis. Dad had a habit of not watching where he was walking, and he'd find the pile more times than not. One morning before everybody else was up, I was getting ready to go fishing, looked out the picture window and see the offending dog. I grabbed the pellet rifle and snuck outside. The dog was facing away from me, and there were two hanging targets. The shot was true, and I could hear that dog yipping as it was running away for a VERY long time! For once I didn't get in trouble for shooting something with the pellet gun. ;D

I don't know if it was my best, but certainly the most memorable...
My friend had gotten permission on a shallow water hole in a cow pasture for us to duck hunt. The ducks had been all over it, so we were excited. Two drake mallards came screaming in from left to right, right over the decoys.
My friend and I were shoulder to shoulder, mounted our guns and shot at exactly the same time. The two greenheads both folded at the exact same second.

My best shot on a Deer was back in 1996 when I made a good heart/lung shot on a Ky Deer @ 378 yards with a 7X57 mm Winchester M-70 rifle. Next good "Neck" shot was on a Colorado Mule Deer @ 375 yards. Also made a 100 yard "head shot" on a Ky Deer with my 7.62X39 m/m Ruger Bolt action rifle. I've also killed two deer with one shot on two different occasions first with my Muzzle Loader & in 2007 I got two Deer with one shot with my .44 Magnum. Range was 60 yards. My Best target shooting was a 5-shot grouping of < .250" @ 100 yards with a .243 Rifle.

1. I shot a squirrel right in the chest with my bow. His heart and lungs were hanging out the other side. There was so much blood I thought I had wondered onto a deer blood trail.
2. I shoot clay birds once a year at a family get together. I am right handed and shoot an old 870. After I outshoot some of the younger guys with fancy expensive guns, I like to tell them that I'll start shooting left handed to make it even. When I outshoot them left handed, the look on their faces is priceless. I can even hit doubles left handed.

I shot a doe a long time ago with a smooth bore 12 gauge slug. Came busting out of a woods 125 steps from my tree stand I shoulder the gun swung out in front of her and pulled the trigger, she rolled like a rabbit catching a load of #6s shot dead thru the shoulder. not a shot I would take today.
I am as far from a water fowler as they come but a buddy wanted me to jump shoot some ducks with him on a float trip. We didnt see a stupid duck until about 200 yards from where we were to take the boat out of the water. There was some logs and trash on one side of the river and as we went past it a mallard got up out of it. I was sitting down with my shotgun leaning on the side of the boat. When that quacker took off I jumped up grabbed my gun and dumped the duck with one shot like I did it for a living. I calmly set the gun back where it had been sitting and sat back down like it was no big deal lol On that same trip as we were putting the boat in for no reason I said out loud, it would be cool to find a big ole buck dead in the water. My buddy said yeah I guess but what made you think of that? I had no idea where it came from. We hadn't been on the water 15 minutes and I looked over to the side and saw a dead deer half in the water! Yup about a 120" 8 pointer. He still to this day thinks I somehow set that whole thing up. lol

A big doe facing me. White throat patch neck-breaker @ 60 yards between two Locust saplings about 12" apart. Dropped her where she stood with my trusty 11-87 20 Ga.
