Whats your number one moment in turkey hunting that you wished for an immediate rewind button to hit? Mine was at Peabody WMA near Madisonville Ky in 2004. Long story short, i wound up with a gobbler standing 15-20 yds in front of me,on a creek bottom coal flat with NOTHING between us. Head starin over my bead & BOOM!! He simply tucked his head between his shoulders & did the fast walk right past me, still well within gun range, still wide open & i was too stunned to even shuck in another shell. The wish to reach for a rewind button actually flashed across my brain for a milisecond! Anybody else have a stunned, rewind moment in turkey hunting?

If I had a button like that I would have it out by now. I'll go with sons first jake he shot with a big longbeard 10 yards back still in the cover.

Back a few years ago I had set up in the corner of a 40 acre field. I had not heard much that morning so this was a good after 9am spot to catch a strutting gobbler.
I had sat there for awhile just calling sparingly. Catty corner from me two gobbler came out in the field. they were picking seeds/bugs and doing half struts. Probably a couple of two year olds.
All my plaintive pleading never got them to budge from the opposite corner.
Finally they went back into the woods that they had come out of. I took that opportunity to go back a ways in my woods and sneak around and down to a deep ditch that I could walk unseen to their corner where I would try and call them. I dared not to walk out into the field to get my decoys so I just left them set up .
To make a long story short, I got over to their corner on the sneak and called and called and called. No answer. After about an hour I gave up and circled back the way I came to my corner.
When got there I saw my jake decoy was laying on it’s side. I thought that was strange as I anchored it securely. When I went to retrieve it the decoy had a pretty good sized gash in it.
Evidently while I was doing the sneak the two gobblers came across the field and beat up my poor jake decoy.
If I had stayed put one would have went home with me.
Rewind…..

LOL. Yeah. Every single hunt except the ones that went according to plan. Last spring I was almost trampled by three gobblers when they stampeded my position. They were hanging behind some thick brush as a buddy called from 30 yds. behind me with a decoy set. I had my back against a tree, expecting them to skirt the brush on my left. Instead, they came around from the right. I suspect they finally eyed the hen decoys and from there it was a foot race with the first Tom the winner. With turkeys at full run from 20 yds, I never had a chance to swivel and shoot. They hadn't a clue I was there until I reflexively thrust out my shotgun in front of me in self defense. Unfortunately, my buddy calling behind me witnessed the whole thing and spent that evening repeating the whole event over and over in our camp, adding further embarrassing details with each retelling. I imagine it will take a few years to live that one down. I saved face somewhat later that day though, scoring a nice 2 yr. old bird.
