I have wanted to try out a polish job on the old 835 for years! Just wanted to say I got it done over the past two days. Now I have all the stuff to do the job.I can hone and polish a barrel in about 15 minutes. I still have to hit the pattern board and compare it to last years papers. If it works like they say I know I'll be doing several for my hunting buddy's.I did some head scratching and came up with the stuff to do it all for about $20.As rippled as that Mossberg barrel was I don't think the brush type hones would have taken them out.As best I could check I took out about .0015 per side on the barrel ID.She looks like a new dime on the inside now!!!

For the brake cylinder. It has 2 pads.Pretty good guess HH.I couldn't find any pads with a fine enough grit to finish it so I made some at work.

I looked at a regular barrel hone from Brownells, it cost around 75.00 so wasn't worth it to me for only one barrel. I used Scotch brite pads and a wire brush with Bon Ame and chrome polish in my 835. It did clean up the bore but there are still some machining marks. I should have done a before and after target but didn't. My 835 is the Turkey Grand Slam with factory Ulti Full Turkey Choke. It patterns 4, 5, 6's real good to 40 yds.
What did you use as an extension for the wheel cylinder hone? What grit did you use, 200 and 400? h.h.

I used an old gun cleaning kit with the screw together rods. They were threaded 8-32 so I drill and tapped the end of the hone the same. All I could find were 240 grit pads so I tried those. When that was done I broke those off and super-glued on a set of 600 grit. That put on a nice finish.I found a set of composite pads that are kind of like a man made leather and finished it off with that. Now that made it shine! If you can get a set of 320's i think they would be a better first grit to use or even up to a 400.Just have to see how fast the humps come out with the finer grits.Follow with the 600 and the composite.

Looks like I picked up about 10% better pattern.I get about 100 #4's or 125 #5's at 45 yds in the old 10" circle.
