What difference does it make? They both taste the same. No difference in taste?..... then why not shot a long spurred bird? The old bird will die soon anyway! The 3/4" spur bird still has 3 or 4 years of natural life left. Thats the difference, the younger bird will be fun to chase for years to come and the big spurred bird wont be around anyway. Plus it is usually harder to fool an older bird. If it was about the few pounds of turkey meat, I'd go to the Piggly Wiggly and buy a Butterball and save tons of money.

I think by the time they both got close enough for me to compare spur length one would have already been flopping.

Which would you prefer to kill? I will take the spurs over beard, but to each thier own Guys, He didn't ask about eating the meat or if we could tell the spurs at a distance, he asked which we would prefer...[glow=red,2,300]a long beard or long spurs[/glow]. Let's not turn this into a "trophy hunter" or "meat hunter" issue.

Let's not turn this into a "trophy hunter" or "meat hunter" issue. Exactly. The point on this site always detours trophy hunting.....but that isn't what we are talking about. It is which one would you rather have! Bottom line, I'd take the longer hooked bird over any other one! Boys T minus 10 days for Florida!

I like to hunt the older bird and let jakes and two year olds go by. But near the end I will take a two year old. Plus if I really excited I go to a shootin a Jake.

Beard for me.
I don't even look at the spurs before I have to try to pick up the dead but still flopping bird without getting hooked. ;D
I rarely even keep the spurs.
