I think this year during the off season so me and my dad dont have to share I'm going to use my tax check to get me a muzzleloader. We have a TC Encore right now. Bought a scope for it and it shoots just fine but I have herd a lot of great things about the new CVA Accura V2 from a bunch of guys from work. Plus I love the thumbhole stocks! I think they are so much more comfortable. But the new CVA's cost just as much as a bone collector and thats without the thumbhole stock or camo pattern. ( im a sucker for the camo ) I just wanted to see if anyone had some good opinions on the matter. Good ol trustworthy Thompson Center or try out the new CVA? Thanks and hope everyone finishes out the season strong!

I'm beatin' a dead horse here, but after 14 years in a row of success with my Encore... Thompson Center is my recommendation. But then I'd still look at Savage (even with the latest news) since I've personally heard such great reviews there also. I guess I just haven't talked to any one to get real world response on the CVA.

Another vote for the Thompson Center. I've been a life long Thompson Center owner, starting with the T/C Hawken when I was a kid. The only other muzzy I have ever purchased (for myself) is the Savage. I LOVE it, but if the choice is Thompson Center or CVA, I would say hands down....Thompson Center. Even though I'll keep that Savage forever, my next one (when my youngest gets a little older) will be a TC

I've owned both and have been happy with both. My personal favorite is my CVA.

I have never shot a T/C so I cannot give you personal experience with it. However, I do own an CVA Kodiak (camo, reg grip, 209, inline trigger break) and my friend just bought a CVA Accura (camo, thumbhole, etc.). I have never had a problem with the Kodiak (see 8pt post) and he loves the feel of the Accura. He got his Accura recently at Dunham's for $269 on sale last month. Good luck with your research and purchase.

Keep your eye on hunting sites on the WWW and you can find like new used in either T/C or CVA for quite a savings. Take a look at the T/C Triumph and the new CVA Optima's or earlier model Accura, I have all three and see very little difference in them as far as quality and or accuracy

CVA may be easier to find than a T/C come tax time.... Blame Shoot & Missum if you can't find a T/C......

I have a TC Encore Endeavor and it is a tack driver. I get 1 1/2 to 2 inch groups at 150 yards using 100 grains of powder and a 260 grain bullet. I like it so much that I use it during both gun and muzzle loader seasons in Indiana as well as Ohio.

Thompson Center. I don't even think CVA is in the same class as a TC.

If you have the $$ for a TC I would definitely go that route over any CVA.
Once you have the encore frame you can keep your eye out for barrels and buy about any gun you want (less optics) for under $300.
Send the frame to Stratton Customs (or similar) and have a trigger job done and when all is said and done you will have one versatile, tack driving tool that you could hunt anything that walks or crawls on earth.

I hereby, since selfless actions are common to my nature ;D , do willingly offer to volunteer my services to where complete tests will be administered, without bias, to said muzzleloaders within "real life" scenarios located in the state of Indiana during which creatures of the classification: Odocoileus virginianus Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Artiodactyla Family: Cervidae Genus: Odocoileinae More commonly known as the whitetail deer will be hunted frequently. Testing will commence mid November 2011 and conclude late December, 2011. All findings, including but not limited to: 1. Groups acquired with various bullets and loads used. 2. A physical characteristic comparison of items compared. 3. Ease of use and cleanability 4. Photos of specie taken. 5. Including all information of the actions taking said specie(s) including: A Range taken B. Distance traveled after discharge C. Gender and weight D. Weather conditions will be posted within this forum, to wit any and all interested parties may view, study and ask questions as needed, to wit they may make any desirable changes within their own personal arsonal, post haste. (until then I have no clue but like both yet have shot neither. ) Hey.........I GOTTA TRY! ;D God Bless Steve

I've shot several CVA's and all were more than accurate enough, and had no problems with them. IMO the new CVA's are pretty nice muzzleloaders.
All that being said, I STILL love my SS T/C Firehawk. I know the Encore's are nice but I will NOT pay THAT kind of money for a muzzleloader. Besides, 209 primers are a PITA compared to a #11 percussion cap.

Easy choice between the two, T/C. Its made in America and you can get a SMI smokeless muzzle loader barrel for it later on if you want. CVA's are made in Spain. h.h.
