Is there a Youth Only Turkey Season this spring the weekend before regular season starts?
I was re-reading some of my Wild Bulletin Posts and I think that is what I understood.
Thanks Guys

I'm ready to get out for my youngest sons( Hunter ) first gun packing trip. We are signed up for his hunters ed. class later in March.I've been waiting a long time for him to say he wanted to turkey hunt! ;D This spring will find him at the top of my list for an Indiana bird.My other son (Shoote47265) or Evan as we call him is going to make it Job One for himself too.He gets sprung from Purdue with 2 weeks of season left so things seem to be looking pretty good. There is about 9.5 years between them so they didn't get into the brotherly fights.Hunter looks up to big brother and Evan does try not to let him down!Dad or brother I couldn't care less either way will be great.

Does the youth have to have a hunter ed card if so Woody do you know of any classes going on in Evansville, Boonville or Newburgh area? Also (in the words of Bill Clinton) define "youth" in other words what is the max age for a youth hunter?

Yes, he has to have a Hunter Ed card.
I'll check to see if theer is one in the near future in the Evansville area.
From the DNR...
The special youth season for hunting wild turkeys under this subsection is two (2) consecutive days beginning on the Saturday immediately before the start of the spring turkey season in subsection (a). As used in this subsection, "youth" means an individual who is less than sixteen (16) years of age on the date of the hunt. A youth who hunts a wild turkey under this section must be accompanied by an adult who is at least eighteen (18) years of age. An adult accompanying a youth hunter must not possess a firearm, bow and arrow, or crossbow while in the field. The seasonal limit for hunting turkeys under this subsection is one (1) bearded or male wild turkey. A youth hunter who takes a turkey under this subsection must not take another turkey during the spring turkey season in the same year.

Another home run by our State. I'm 99% sure I have my oldest daughter convinced to go this spring. She's not an early morning girl, so I'm thinking of taking her around noon time to an afternoon strutting area that I have, set up the Double Bull blind, stake out a couple dekes, and wait one out with her. Maybe she'll get a chance to let her 20 ga. rip!

I killed one a couple years back at 3:30PM.. Take something to keep her occupied until the birds show up..

Took my grandson for his hunter ed. class yesterday in Elwood. Got him a .20 gauge 870 for Xmas. Gonna get his youth liscense today. Only thing left is to drop some bucks on camo and a turkey choke. He's really excited about this upcoming season and so am I. We'll be hunting the HNF the youth weekend, so I just hope we don't have a problem with a lot of hunters out scouting and calling that could mess up our hunt.

Glad to hear of so many plans to take kids out for the youth season. My oldest daughter (5 YO) is old enough and able enough for pre-dawn scouting trips but not quite there yet to sit still long enough...even in a blind. I'm taking the neighbor kid (11 YO) and am more excited about calling in a bird for him than for myself!
