Not sure how to attack my woods right now. Seeing does like crazy in firearms and been shutout last 4 times out. Kinda tricky woods has a creek but no adjoining food sources like fields. I know this time of year food sources are the way to go. They are still traveling thru it hard, I am assuming at night though. I am down at the bottom of a ridge that is a swamp with a nasty thicket I know they sometimes bed in. Any suggestions or ideas?

Since there isn't a food source near by I would find the heaviest run trail and sit on it. Im not sure how deer move in hills and hollows since my area is mostly flat ground but when the temperatures get real cold the bottoms are the coldest. During the real cold weather I would think deer would bed on the hill sides facing the sun to help keep warm. h.h.

Move to higher ground with a southern exposure. If there are mature White Oaks, Briar thickets, & multiple Beech saplings that's even better.

Agree with h.h. and DEERTRACKS advice. Try to be on stand very early (before first light) to catch them sneaking back to their beds. Deer don't feel nearly as comfortable (secure) after daylight in the woods this time of year as they did earlier in the season what with the loss of cover from the trees and undergrowth. Hunting ag fields is great this time of year, but remember that ag crops are only one source of feed for deer.

i sit on top of a ridge that the revene is all swamp. before the temp went below freezing, they were coming from down the revine every night. Now that the temp has dropped, there not using that trail anymore. Makes me wonder if they dont like the ice down there or the water is just to cold to walk thru so they avoid it except to drink. went from 10 a night, to 5 a week or so. i dont no. just my opinion.

Deer don't like walking on or thru ice anymore than we do. Think like a deer would to avoid the ice crossing keeping the wind & cover in their favor while travelling.

Now that there is snow on the ground where is the deer sign at? Move accordingly.
You might be out of luck if the deer aren't being pressured by hunters next to the food source then they are probably hanging out and not moving much.
