I am curious what you might feel is the easiest or best way to clean a turkey.
Thanks, Robert

If you are going to get the bird mounted, Do not even think about cleaning. A bird for the taxidermist is skinned different than one to eat. Let your taxidermist do the skinning. As for a bird to eat, I skin through a breast incision from below the beard to the vent and peel the skin off. This allows you to get the breast and leg quarters out without to much trouble. Some pluck but to mee it seems like to much work. I cook my birds in a roasting bag or on the wet smoker so they stay plenty moist.

I do mine like hoosierT says.I gust treat them like an over sized quail. Most of the time I will go one step farther and fillet the breast from the bone.It leaves 2 nice steaks that cook much faster and more even.I also cube it up in about 1" squares batter it then deep fry.

Just throw them in the washing machine and slam down the lid. Works for cats and small dogs too. Seriously... I never "clean them". I just breast them out. Not a whole lot of meat on the legs (lots of tendons) and back. . .

Like Woody I breast them out, The legs on a wild turkey are some tough meat. I may skin the legs out, toss them on a grill and feed them to the cat after removing the bone. I have skinned out the entire bird a couple times and had them smoked whole but didn't care for that much.

Those folks that are just "breasting-out" a turkey, are throwing away about half the meat of their birds...which should be a crime, since the wings, legs, and thighs constitute some of the very best eats on the whole bird!!! It's hard to imagine not putting in the little effort needed, for such a big payoff in something so tasty!!!!!!!!!
I filet the meat off these "extra" parts and use it in soups, turkey salad, stir fry, and such. Also, run these select cuts of prime turkey flesh through a grinder, and it makes absolutely wonderful burger!
MMMMMMM......mmmmmmm.......GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!

I like to clean like a pheasant and then I slice the breast and deep fry or bar-b-Que but the legs and wings, I like to slow cook in a crockpot with some Cajun spices. Meat falls right off and tastes great.
