I was watching a group of seven longbeards in the snow behind my house when my wife says, "There's something over there. It looks big!" I look out in the field to the West and something huge and black was out there. I thought it must be a turkey, and sure enough, I put the glasses on it and it was a full strut gobbler, with what I assume must have been a few hens. I don't know as i've ever seen one display this early.

Dang! That would have been cool to see in the snow. You'd think those Toms should be concentrating on finding food in this snow, but I guess he had other things on his mind!

Feb. 17th, I'd bet it was a group of Jakes instead of hens. He was probably strutting to establish dominance. We have several large Toms, and they are strutting when the Jakes come into the field. They will also chase the Jakes and flap their wings. Reguardless, just seein a big boy will get yer blood boilin!! Congrats man!!

Those silly birds have been out nearly every day for weeks, especially when it rains. They are definitely feeding. I have only seen one display, but two were chasing each other all over the place yesterday like ducks in a shooting gallery, back and forth, back and forth. I have always concentrated on deer, but these birds would get anybody going. Three in particular are very large birds; one has what is at least a ten inch beard--it looks as if it is dragging the ground, and another has a shorter, almost absurdly thick "paintbrush." It looks like four beards combed together! I need to find out who owns that place!

I got a picture I can put on here when i think of it, but the turks are just little specks, because the closest they get is about 150-200 yards, usually more like 300. The digital camera's zoom just don't cut it. I'll see if i can zoom in on the computer. Dang things are out there now, at 1:30, in the rain.
I did get soe DVD video. I wonder if it can be easily posted somehow?
