I'm wondering if any of you guys know of some places here in northern Indiana to take my son out for his first turkey hunt (he's 10 y/o). I am in the Air Force stationed at Notre Dame, and have been here for a few years but I have never looked into turkey hunting around here I always go back home (Michigan). I enjoy turkey hunting, and my son is rather excited about trying it out, I just have no idea where to go around here, I have never seen any wild turkeys out and about. I live right on the border of St. Joe and Elkhart County, so if anyone knows of a local place and would be willing to pass that information on, I would appreciate it!

Mississinewa & Salamonie properties have birds, but I think both are draw hunts... I know Mississinewa is draw only.

Pigeon River FWA in Steuben and Lagrange Counties (just W. of Angola) is a good place, however its a draw hunt. Apps are due in by March 1st but its well worth it to apply. They only allow drawn hunters to hunt, however if you are drawn and he isnt, you can give the hunt to you'r son since he is underage, then obtain a field pass to go along, just cant hunt. If he is drawn you can obtain a field pass allowing you to go out with him, again just not allowed to touch the gun. They also have drawings for NO-Show slots the morning of the hunt, you could actually stand a chance of drawing a tag that way. I have drawn several No-Show tags. I believe Pigeon River is approxamitly 11,600 acres, of State owned land. Lots of birds, I'll be submitting my app. for there again this year. Any questions you can call em at the office (260) 367-2164 Good Luck

Drive on down to Missouri, and there are plenty of birds at all public areas and buy right over the counter. If you have a hunter ed. card from your state, then he can sit by you and buy a youth tag. Near Rolla, MO., of of I-44 go south and on the left stop at DJ package, and buy a tag, or tags for the both of you, and then go on south 5 miles and your will be around Woodson K. Woods, get a map from the Meramac Springs Park Office. There is also more areas south of I - 44 , When you get to Rolla, exit at 63 south and head south for Mark Twain National Forest, or go to the Newburg exit and then go south again and look for Mark Twain National forest. Good lulck.

:)PapoHead,
What does an out of state over the counter run in MO?
Anything else needed? I know here we need a gameBird stamp.
What is the bag limit for an out of state tag? 1 per tag?
