Ok so me and my husband were wondering what the numbers were looking like this year. since usualy our place is covered in deer and this year haven't seen much. Talked to a DNR agent today that said check in numbers are really low all over the state. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas why? I personaly think the weather mayhave something to do with it. seems to me that it a bit to warm during the day. Most movement that I've seen has been at night. What you guys think?

My overall sightings are down also here in switerland county although buck sighting's are up. We have been on a 8 bonus antlerless quota for past few year's and it's put a hurt on our overall population. (At least in my area.) We usually try to take 6 to 8 doe's of our 150 acre's but have decided to only take 3 or 4. (2 so far and 2 buck's). Because we just arn't seeing that many to justify taking more. Many of my hunting friend's are experiencing low deer sighting's as well. So I am interested in seeing what the number's are as well. My guess is certain area's will be up and some down with total being close or a little below last year's total. Just my 2 cent's.

Last year here in N.E. Indiana everyone and every check in station I talked to were down on deer killed and check in. Some of the check in stations were close to 50% less deer and I would have bet anything the harvest numbers for Indiana were be down, but low and behold we set another record harvest again!
On my property which is 1/2 mile from I-69 I see less deer every year to the point this year I will not shoot any does there. This year the state up the bonus tags from 4 to 8......WHY! Ive seen the deer herd in my area shrink the last ten years. I use to see 12 -20 deer a day, now Im lucky to see 2 - 6 and many days I don't see any and my property is all dedicated to wildlife, no crops. All CRP fields and woods.
The state needs to do a better job of knowing how big the herd is and where it needs thinned and not use a general census of population before the shoot themselves out of business..... h.h.

X3 Between depredation permits and bing in a 8 bonus county. Reminds me of hunting in the early 70's but with more bucks. Will see what happens when we get the colder weather.

Herd numbers here are definitely down! Not seeing many deer at all. Seen as many bucks as does, which is good to see the bucks, but numbers are down for sure.

Major factor to me has been the warm weather and an overabundance of acorns in the area, come on cold snap.....

Its been an odd but good year for my son and I. Having hunted the same farm for over 20 years we've got pretty familar with what is the normal. This year is certainly not been the norm for overall deer sightings. My son has limited time as he is at Purdue. He got to come home and hunt on 10/10 and took a nice 11 pointer with his bow and another buck was with it. He didn't hunt again until openning weekend of gun and saw one deer, which was another nice buck. Myself, I have not had time to hunt like I normally do because of work. I have seen a total of three deer from the stand in as many days hunting during bow season. One really nice buck at 10 yards but could not get the shot. Hunted openning morning of gun and took a nice 8 point. Saw one other, a doe at daylight. The acorns are everywhere, just not the deer, but the bucks we have seen have been quality. We have not seen any deer on the road going to or from our hunting spots. either Ironically, I had to travel to St louis two weeks ago and saw probably 100 deer in the feilds along I70 while travelling through Illinois. Just my 2 cents worth.

I've seen just as many deer as I always do every season, perhaps more. I'm tagged out for my county, with both archery tags filled, four bonus antlerless tags filled, and my firearms tag filled.

My deer numbers have been the same this year in Madison Co. Large buck sightings are down for me, but I think due the warmer weather most are nocturnal . Small bucks sightings are up.
I really didn't see any major chasing this year like years past during the rut. It really has been a slow rut for me.
I would like to see the antler-less bonus bag limits dropped, but I really don't think that is going to happen.

My season was about the same. I saw deer every time out except twice.
Par for the course..

Okay this might make some mad! BUT I don't disagree with the county bonus antler less quotas' But I strongly believe thier should be a ONE deer a day limit the Idea of going out and killing more deer in one day than you can kill rabbits or squirrel in my opinion is completely crazy stretch it out over the season.

Deer sighting for me have went way down since the 2007 EHD epidemic in Perry county. The last 3 years I have hunted more hours and seen less than a 1/4 of the deer I used to see. I bet I hunted 20 or more times this year when I did not see a deer. Frustrating when they say there are too many deer. Yeah, you have pockets where deer are abundant but in the HNF in Perry County you will be lucky to see a deer trail.
