Okay here's the deal. My parents house has been hit three times in the last two weeks. Every time on Sunday and Wednsday night. Because no one is home since they are all at church. I was wanting to see if you guy's know much about the wildgame Infrared Camera at Wal Mart. Don't know much about these cameras but wanted to get a camera that didn't flash. Would this camera be a safe bet to catch the guy's doing this or will they spot anything with the camera and take off. Don't know anything about infrared so didn't know if instead of a white flash there was a red flash or something. I just didn't want to get it taken either. What they are doing is just coming in and taking what they can carry out real fast. Once a bow and boots another time a laptop computer and then last time a purse. Any info would be appreciated. I could make a trip to Gander I guess but didn't want to drive that far and Wal Mart is right beside my church and thought maybe they will have one in stock and I can get it. That's why I asked. This is the one I'm talking about. www.walmart.com/ip/Wildgame-ir4-Digital-Infrared-Flash-Camera/13449145Thanks guys BB

Without a face pic it would be hard to see who it is. Those type of infrared cameras give off a visible red light. Not bright, but still visible to the human eye. I'd be tempted to get into the house unnoticed and sit there while they are at church....... I ain't saying what would be sitting in my lap. A friend tried doing the same thing at his property with a more expensive camera. Locked to a tree with a 3/8" Python cable lock. Cable was cut, camera and locked steel box that it was in was gone.

Well I'm thinking I just have them leave the light on in the basement. That is where they have came in before. The door doesn't lock. And put the camera where it can't be seen very well and face the door. With the light on it shouldn't flash should it? And they won't see it.
Do the IR cameras take color pictures? BB

Yes, the IR cameras that I have take color if not in the IR mode. One thing about the cheap cameras, is the slow trigger time. Think how far you can move in 1 to 3 (or more) seconds. I like www.chasingame.com/ for their camera reviews.

If the thief(s) are that predictable I would think that a call to the LEO would be in order. If a quick, easy and assured collar of the culprits is there the LEO should be willing to use it...but that's JMTCW. Let the law take care of what they should be taking care of!

I agree with the above post about waiting inside. I would feel very threatened if someone broke in. I would probably be forced to defend myself due to the fact that I was afraid for my life.

Well the waiting inside is one thing I thought of but really don't want to kill someone.. Not saying I wouldn't to protect my family but just trying to figure a way to catch the guy(s) in the act. the cop in town thinks he knows who it is but doing something is another thing. Another friend of mine got his gun stolen just last night. So it's going around town... And the cops have been notified and all is on the strait path to doing what's right. But just trying to help the one cop in town out.. Thanks for any info given guy's. We will try to figure something out.. BB

Yeah... you really don't want to kill some kids because they are petty thieves.
Not that I condone their thievery.

Why doesn't the door to the basement lock? Surely it has door frame and a pad lock could be installed. While that may not keep them out at least it will slow them down while you call 911.

What about being armed with mace and handcuffs?

Well the basement was a drive in for a garage when I was little and then just got to be to much stuff in it for that. So it now has one main door and two side doors that slide in from the side. So they are easy to get open. Never had a problem before. Old house but always had no problem with people being mean before. And as far as being armed with mace and handcuffs.... Well I would never arm myself with so little not knowing what they were armed with. And the wife told me my handcuffs stay in the bedroom.... Would be kind of messed up when I turn them into the cops with those fuzzy handcuffs... LOL... J/K on the handcuffs.
I did talk to a state trooper last night about it. Friend of mine that lives close to my parents so he said he would swing by there every once in a while on Sunday nights. BB

If I got hit 2 times on a church night I'm pretty sure I'd be home the third Wed/Sun unless you take a VERY literal translation of the cloak/tunic passage.
