What an amazing morning it was for me and my son. He has been beging me to take him hunting this year so i knew my focus would be on him. We started hunting a little piece of propert after opening day and with much dissappointment with 5 outings and no sign of deer anywhere. He talked me into hunting a piece of property i hunted when i was growing up so i thought what the heck lets give it a whirl. As we left the house this morning, running a little behind, i worried about the fog and was hoping for anything other than an empty morning. As we rolled up to my old hunting spot something just felt right. I didnt want to say anything to him to get him to worked up but when we walked into the ridge to sit on the ground there was a low lying fog between the ridges and cool temps. I just kept telling myself please let us see something. We had been setting there for 30 min. when a doe crossed the top of the ridge heading strait for us. I thought to myself this is gonna be the moment. As i whispered to him she was coming down the hill he started wiggling something awful to get comfortable for a shot. She spotted him in no time and trotted off. The look on my sons face was so disappointing. As i finally got him calmed down we set there and went through the chain of events and learn from his mistakes. It wasnt 5 min. after the doe disappeared a button buck appeared 30 yards in front of us broad side. He drew the bead on his 20 gauge and squeezed the trigger. The deer appeared to be hit but i wasnt sure. No blood. After searching around for a while we found him. We lit the woods up with excitment. The greatest part was he killed his first deer not 20 yards from where i killed my first deer. Sorry for making the story long but i never thought the feeling of my son killing his first deer would be so awesome. Thanks for reading. Attachments:

I certainly understand what you are talking about. My son took his first deer yesterday evening. I think I was more excited than he was.

Congrats to you both! It's times like this that make the hunt that more special. My son has been begging me to take him hunting as well and when I feel he's ready I look forward to good times like these when a father and son make life long memories. I still remember the first day my father took me deer hunting and how excited he was to have me hunting with him. I thank my Dad for introducing me to hunting and the many memories I have to share. Congratulations guys!
