The last one is the 1270 y/o oak. That was a real knot filled and cracked piece. I figured it would break, but I wanted the grain to see how it looked.

I am actually making at least 4 for the NWTF Auction at Nashville for the convention- one will be a 1270 y/o oak.

They look nice. I was talking to some guys making bowls at a demo. On some of the real burly nasty grain they turn wet or fresh cut to almost finish dimensions. They place the turning in wood-chips and sawdust and allow it to dry before finishing.

I just took a bowl class the last two weeks and turned green wood. It definitely turns different. I wish the 1270 y/o oak turned better....actually it isn't bad, but the way the boards are cut I really have very little wiggle/error room. Mostly 1X's. I have not been into wood until turkey hunting. I am loving it now.
