what a great day to be in the woods yesterday. I decided on an all day sit because the whole farm is still choked with standing corn and the only way into the middle is to walk along the field edges. I hate doing that so I figured I would just go in and stay. Sunrise and some much appreciated warmth. Attachments:

from first light until about 11 I saw deer constantly. This little guy was #1 but by noon I had seen 11 different bucks. All young ones but man they were sure on their feet and movin! My best ever as far as number of different bucks seen in one sitting. Attachments:

One small safety note... there has been a lot of discussion about taking a leak from your tree stand. I have done it for years and never once had a deer react to it. HOWEVER when you have a doe sneak up behind you to about 10 yards and blow at you...it tends to surprise you and if your like me when you get surprised you jump...including your hands and arms...I'll leave it at that Attachments:

from noon until about 2 things slowed down but after that I was still seeing deer but it was the slick heads that were active then. From noon until dark I saw 12 deer but only one was a buck again a year and a half old deer.

I havent done an all day sit yet ... wont be long though.
Guys who never sit all day are amazed by two things:
First they are amazed that a hunter is crazy enough to spend all day in a tree.
Second they are amazed at the number of deer those who do sit all day see. I saw 56 deer over the course of one day in 2007. Not a single block of one hour went by that I didnt see a deer.

I am a stander myself. I sit down to eat my lunch and that is it. This is how I got in 625 hours last year in the stand.

Are you sure you just didn't see the same single deer 56 times? I typically only get to a do an all day site but once a year. During My all dayer last year (opening day firearm), I didn't see anything until about about an hour so of legal hunting was left. Then a herd of 5 or 6 stuck their head into the field I was hunting, and then spooked away just as quick. Turned out the other guy who has permission to hunt the property pulled in the driveway and that exact same time and spooked them away. He got there late because he bought his nephew hunting whose Mom (I said Mom) was deployed to Iraq. Can't fault the guy. I ended up getting a doe the next day, a buck two days later.

Couple of years back, I got a bad "Charlie Horse" in my left leg and that really got me out of my stand!! ;D If I stay in the stand for an extended time & if it is cold my eyes become bloodshot, from the cold and from looking about the woods.
