I havent seen that ! Thats amazing the guy lived ! My uncle shot a doe in the face with a crossbow bolt and the broadhead came out the base of the neck a few years ago, the photo was pretty impressive but the doe didnt survive. I cant believe the man did !
That is an awful huntin accident ! I wonder what the story behind it is ? Just curious if teh man was shot by another hunter or if it was somesort of accident where he feel from the stand on to his arrows or something ?
The pic of my uncle with his doe was posted in one of the Indiana Outdoor magazines and Horton crossbows purchased rights to the picture for advertisng for their crossbows. He shot it with the Horton Legend Sl crossbow and I actually bought it from him 2 years ago !
Horton gave him a brand new crossbow, quiver, red dot scope, cling, case, 6 bolts w/ field tips as part of his package for giving them the right to use the picture for advertising LOL !
The bolt entered the doe between the eyes right above the nose, when it hit the back of the skull the aluminum bolt bent and came out in the back of the neck the entire broadhead was sticking out of her neck !
It was an impressive picture and a great shot, although I still question if that was his intended shot or if he happened to get "lucky" that he hit the deer at all LMAO ! the story was he shot her in the head to save all the meat from damage from the broadhead but the deer was quarterin to him severly, I think at the last minute she raised up and caught the bolt in the face !
But that doesnt make for as good of a hunting tail does it LOL ! Anyway it was a great shot and I felt I should share it ! I hope that the man who caught an arrow to the head survives and makes afull recovery that is a tragedy that an accident like that happened to him and he is extrememly lucky that he didnt die !
Good luck to you all this season ! ~INDeerhunter ~

The one that I saw was from several years ago also. Two guys were in a pop-up blind filming a hunt. The camera guy leaned in front of the shooter and took the shot in the back of the head. They unscrewed the broadhead and went to the hospital.
What saved the guy was the fact that it wasn't a full on shot. The arrow hit his head at the beginning of the release cycle

This happened in Oregon on Sept. 29, 2010 I had not heard anything about accidental arrow shooting very much, but I guess there is a few. "LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) — A 59-year-old man shot in the head by a hunting arrow died almost instantly, and sheriff's detectives are still investigating the death. Union County District Attorney Tim Thompson said sheriff's detectives are investigating the weekend death of a 59-year-old Paul Rudd of La Grande, Ore. The district attorney said Rudd was hunting Sunday with 53-year-old Mark Omann of La Grande. The two were hunting a bull elk and reportedly standing within 15 feet of each other when Omann's compound bow discharged. Thompson said the arrow hit Rudd in the head, killing him almost instantly. www.kval.com/outdoors/fishhunt/104023473.html"

The version I heard.... I understand the way this happened was these two "hunters" were deer hunting out of a blind over bait (illegal) and some deer came in. They both drew and the first guy (Arrowhead ) missed but stood up and moved over to see where his arrow went. The second guy shot just at that time and hit the first guy in the head. The arrow never really cleared the bow before it hit him in the head. He did not get the full power stroke.Looks to be a Thunderhead.. Word was that "Wacky Weed" was involved too.
