That is a shame.
Is this on the property that Terry and Skinner has?

Yes, Terry actually killed his first WT deer this past weekend, a doe. He's from California originally.

Here in the Southern portion of the state, we've had about a 1/4" of rain since August 21 and no real rain forecast for the next 14 days.

Approx. 2 months ago I posted a newspaper article from LaPorte, Indiana that talked about several property owners finding numerous dead deer which the DNR attributed to BLUE TONGUE. Last week while doing some work along a property ditch I located the skeletal remains of 2 deer along that ditch (they say that deer that contract BLUE TONGUE will go to water because of the high fever and loss of blood). So far since the beginning of October I have only seen 1 deer on my property. Now some might say they are in the corn, there is no corn it has all been picked. Some might say they are in the woods eating acorns,my woods is loaded with acorns ...no deer. Others may say they are near water, I have several ponds and a marsh,no deer. This morning I spoke with several other property owners around Northern LaPorte and they too are concerned about the very low numbers. In addition I do a lot of traveling around the northern part of the state from the ILL. line to the OHIO line and I am not seeing dead deer or deer period. It will be interesting to see what the harvest numbers will be in the northern part of the state. MAYBE WE WON'T NEED CHANGES IN THE DEER REGULATIONS IF THE HERD NUMBERS ARE WAY DOWN.

I also hunt in Laporte county, north of Ind. Toll road and havent seen the deer or sign we have consistantly seen year after year. Talk is in Laporte county EHD will have taken out 40% of the herd. I also don't think it is just in and around Lake and Laporte! I live in Roselawn and just down the block from me a buck had to be shot by a C.O.. The buck was wondering around in circles and bumping into things (as though it could not see). After the buck was shot the C.O. stated the buck had all the signs of E.H.D. (puffey eyes, skinney, screwed up hooves) and was almost positive he had E.H.D. pending an official biologist report. I wouldnt be suprised if E.H.D. will be attributed to the low volumes of the harvest for 2010 in most counties. I believe the state knew about it before hand but did not want to tell for the fear of freaking people out and screwing up license sales. We will just have to wait and see? I can't see the state changing any Deer season as the way it is now! I think the state knows what a toll this E.H.D. will do to all of Indiana.

EHD is nothing new, the county I live in has had outbreaks and the population has not been affected long term. In reality, once the area has been infected the deer build up antibodies to this disease.

EHD is nothing new, the county I live in has had outbreaks and the population has not been affected long term. In reality, once the area has been infected the deer build up antibodies to this disease. This is true. EHD presents itself to some degree each year & some years it's worse. The Deer, that do survive the outbreak, will build up antibodies. I was supprised that more cases weren't found up in Indiana, this past Summer with the drought.
