Text for the Day -- Isaiah 2:5-6, 12-17 ---------- O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD!
For you have forsaken the ways of your people, O house of Jacob. Indeed they are full of diviners from the east and of soothsayers like the Philistines, and they clasp hands with foreigners. For the LORD of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up and high; against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up; and against all the oaks of Bashan; against all the high mountains, and against all the lofty hills; against every high tower, and against every fortified wall; against all the ships of Tarshish, and against all the beautiful craft. The haughtiness of people shall be humbled, and the pride of everyone shall be brought low; and the LORD alone will be exalted on that day.
Devotional ---------- False pride leads to a destructive end. False pride eliminates reliance on God and recognition of the frailty and temporal limits of being human. The notion of God is put aside. This happens to individuals, but it also happens to nations. This is the root sin that separates from God. Self-examination with regard to pride is essential. Have you checked your humility level lately?
Prayer ----------- Come Holy Spirit, open my eyes to my false pride and lead me to humility. Amen
