Curious as to how many of you long(er) veterans of this site and of course, any newbies like me too are hunting exclusively or mostly with a handgun during firearm season for 2010?
Info on your choice of hand cannon, bullet choices and previous season's success stories all welcome!
I'm not having much luck using the "search" option so if this is a repeat........SORRY!
God Bless! Steve

Who knows, it usually depends on however the mood grabs me. I have a bunch of Encore stuff, a couple of XP's and even a few wheel guns (I usually strap one of those on regardless of what else I take). I have way too many to go through and list all the loads. I did take a doe with my 15" 30-06 barrel a few years ago. Even though it's a factory barrel it is still one of my most accurate barrels and loves 165gr Sierra GameKings.

I've got a 338 Federal Prohunter pistol that I can use. Last year didn't have enough days to do it, so it ended up being used on a few pigs in Ga. I know they wished it hadn't happened. My deer rifle for Ind. is a 20" Prohunter Katahdin in 460 Works well, used shortened cases and 200 grain bullets

If I was still there I might be. Only thing I have is a Contender. At this point my choices would either be a .357 maximum or a 7 TCU. Chances are I'd have the frame set up with a .44 mag carbine barrel as a rifle though.
I don't think I'll ever carry a handgun as a primary gun up here; there's too much of a chance that the deer will be moving and no time for a solid rest.

454 Casull is my doe killer if I shoot a buck first but until I kill my buck it usually stays home. Although sometimes I carry the Ruger with the rifle for a close up shot. h.h.

Sounds like some nice hand cannons going afield this year!!
Gotta love em!
Ive taken deer with a Smith 29, a Python hunter, a couple contenders in 35Rem and 44mag and an Xp100 in 35Rem.
I threw common sense to the wind and "JUSTIFIED" way too much money spenT ( prior to the crap hitting the fan in my life) and ordered a MOA Maximum, switch barrel, in 6BR and 6.5x284 (BRAKED!) in bull barrels. Got another loading set up piece by piece and threw in a Hornady Lock n Load auto powder dispenser (old eyes STINK for using balance scales!).
Had to go "cheap" on a scope but.....it'll git-r-done.
Looking forward to "hero" photos from all this year but from the handgun shooters especially (and forever highly interesting traditional bowhunter ones during archery. IMHO) !
Things are achanging on how I hunt due to number of deer and number of deer HUNTERS out an about. Curious to see how things work best for others too for comparison.
Old dawg for sure, but always looking for another new "trick" to learn from.
God Bless! Steve
PS..... The MOA is due any day now (after more than four months).......puff, pant, gasp........wheeeeeeeez!

I know how it goes; My 1st is XP being turned into a 7TCU. It is going on something like 9mo, but I'm told it's about my turn.

I've been playing with my 7 TCU barrel for my Contender. I've got around 100 cases fireformed, and that's all I've done with it so far. Haven't had it on a rest to see what the fireforms will do just yet. Hope to soon- I just became a dues-paying member of a gun club yesterday!

Yeah but I had to wait on the barrel before I could ship it off to the 'Smith. He got a bunch of rifles in from a department and the State (I think I have that right) to do so I told him not to worry about it - it's not like I don't have anything else to use!

Thought a few might want to see the beast. Doing my best to not have to sell it due to mentioned "issues" in my life. MOA Maximum 6.5x284 16 inch BULL (and I mean BULLLLLLLL barrel) plus brake At least I have a photo of it set up. Not firing it till I find out next week if I can keep it for sure. Prayers appreciated (not just cause of the pistol...lol) God Bless Steve Attachments:

I'm like db, sometimes the mood strikes me to take my pistol sometimes it doesn't. I only gun hunted a few times last year. This year will probably be different. I have a 15" Encore .270 using handloaded 150gr. Nosler ballistic tips. Really flattens those deer! Here's one from a couple years ago. I do love using it and it's way more accurate than I am.

If I gun hunt at all I'm thinking of using my 16" 6.8 SPC upper on a pistol lower. Should make a great whitetail pistol. I just need to build a dedicated pistol lower. If I don't do that I'll use my S&W 629 with 240 grain Winchester Supreme partition bullets.
