I was looking at some old posts and found this one from 2005 and thought it would be interesting to see what if anything has changed since then. I know my hunting strategies sure have changed and my numbers are way different now then they would have been back then.

If your asking how many times I have hunted a specific buck and actually killed it, not many. I have a trail camera but mostly use it for entertainment. Most years I know how the deer move on my property and set up not really knowing what type of buck will show up.On a few rare occasions I have spotted a good buck and ended up getting him but not often.

I'm just looking to fill the freezer. I'll let the forky's and spikes walk unless it's down to the end and I need meat and that's about as much as it matters to me.

Since the OBR it's usually 50% in any given year. I'm an opportunist for meat & racks, so if a nice buck other than the one I'm after presents a shot opportunity I fill my tag. Prior to OBR I would take a decent buck early, kill some does, & wait for the big boys to get active in the pre-rut.

a couple of years pre OBR I started passing up young bucks and waiting on something older. This past season is the first time I targeted a specific buck. I saw him several times thru out archery gun and Mz season I even shaved a few hairs off his belly during archery. He won in the end and I filled my tag on a 130ish buck the last Sat of Mz season which I had also seen several times thru out the seasons. It was fun and frustrating not sure if I will do it again or not. IF i find the one I was hunting is alive I will definately hunt him again this coming year.

I have never pursued a specific buck and hunt locations critters funnel to, not the specific critter themselves.

I havent targeted one single buck although with all my scouting i have a pretty good idea of what is hanging around last year my hunting partner and myself both shot deer we had multiple pics of and were holding out for makes it that much more rewarding for me

I would guess that about 80% of the bucks over the last 25 years or so that I have shot were target animals that I had seen while scouting over the summer, or set up on by locating them while hunting new areas.

I hunt mainly just a couple farm's, so with that said probably 70 %. Usually find previous year's shed's or observe during summer scouting. Usually have a hit list of 4 maybe 5 buck's i'm hunting but don't limit myself to just 1 buck. Then you have the occasional buck that just show's up during the rut. Those are nice. Have located 2 potenial shooter's allready. 1 buck i posted pic's of on "CAMS GOING UP TOMORROW" post. He's got some potenial just waiting to see what he turn's into now.
