Not at all IMHO and do not think this a bash they are silly as they are just a wild animal. Stands are one thing since they arereally do not have names persay mor of a discription to know where to go or not fopr a particular hunt.

Named a small buck at my dads woods. I called him Little Nasty because he has one of the nastiest looking racks I have ever seen. I passed him up around 6 times that fall.

This past year I named a buck Cotton Eye Joe, because after getting trail cam pics of him for the second post season in row my first thought was "where did you come from and where did you go?" which is a line from the song. I've never seen the buck in person and the only trail cam photos I have of him are from just after the 2008 hunting season ended and late in the season this past year.
When I was 6 or 7, my father, my uncle, my grandfather and every one else who hunted in the area were after a pair of bucks that were often seen together, one of which they named Smokey and the other of which I named the Bandit.

saw a buck one year during early archery several times in range, little scrub rack. I named him Lucky, every time I went to my stand during gun or bow on this property he would walk past. This went on all season until one evening during ML and the guy across the road shot him....lol Guess that name didn't fit well.

One season we named a grotesquely shaped forky "Doofus" because he walked up under everyone's stand during bow season and offered us all gimme shots on several occasions. We knew he'd never make it through opening firearms weekend and we never saw him again after that.

My personal favorite was "The General" we first saw it two years ago in mid-summer in a bachalor group of about 6 nice bucks. He was a mainframe 10 that was just beautiful and enormous. Never saw him during the season but saw him again the following summer and once again did not see him this past season. He seems to be the boss when he moves every other deer watches and steers clear he is defientantly the field general

Lucky G-2 Buck big 12 devil buck bloomin onion buck Ed
just a few over the years. I've had many names for deer. Running trailcams you have to name your deer so you can keep them straight..Might get 20 different bucks a year on camera, at least.
