I was working a bird yesterday evening when he hung up about 150 yds out. I belly crawled until I thought I was about 35-40 yds. away and settled in behind a small cedar tree and took the shot. He turned and ran away putting . I found a few small feathers. I stepped it off and it was 53 yds. instead of 35-40 I thought it was. My question is, will he return to this field and how soon do you guys think? Thanks

Hard to say. Guys have shot birds and found more than a few pellets in non-vital areas.

I'd say he might be a bit more skiddish. But, if there are plenty of hens around, he'll be there!

i missed a gobbler [2 shots] on SAT. evening and killed him on SUN. morning
same bird, same field. the kill shot was from behind him,but i found a couple pellets in his breast ,so i know it was the same bird. he'll be back if there are hens around.

He's still in the area, but not in the same exact field. That happened on Monday and he was gobbling on Tues. and Wed. evening, but on the neighbors property.
