What if the state sold $5 chances for the opportunity to kill a 2nd buck? Do you think it would be a popular thing? Do you think many would participate? Do you think it would be a good source of revenue for the DNR? They could start selling them in January, and stop selling them sometime in September. They could draw maybe 100 winners, with unlimited enties allowed. I know I would buy a few chances just because. I think it would also help calm the OBR debate because it is kind of a compromise. The actual license could be comped to the lucky winners. Below is the article that gave me the idea.
Montana SuperTags On Sale
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks reminds hunters that an unlimited number of $5 SuperTag chances are available for fall 2010 hunts. Eight lucky hunters will win the chance to hunt a moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, elk, deer, antelope, mountain lion and bison in any legal district open for that species.
SuperTag lottery proceeds go to enhance hunting access and boost FWP enforcement efforts.
To purchase a SuperTag, a 2010 conservation license is needed. SuperTags are available at all FWP offices, license providers, or online at fwp.mt.gov using FWP’s online licensing service.

Yes, I think that could raise a lot of money. I think you would have to offer more than 100 tags to get anyone's interest, however. How about 1000?

I just read this article this morning and the idea hit me and I started typing. I think there could be a lot of debate on the number of winners. I really wasn't sure what a good number would be so I just picked 100.

or we could have our own comprehensive tag raffle...would have to be first of the year or end of the year prior to year you are applying for.

Michigan has started the same type of lottery as Montana. The only glitch is that if a non- resident wins he still can't do the elk hunt, only residents can do that.

I'd buy. It would be interesting to see how many OBR supporters also bought a chance.

Nah; I mainly care about filling the freezer and I have adequate opportunities without entering a drawing. I still say set the laws for the overall health of the heard - set the number of bucks or does with that as the main goal and forget the rest of the nonsense.

Why not a raffle for all the hunting license available in any given year? That would make more sense that just a second buck, wheres the victory in that?

Why not a raffle for all the hunting license available in any given year? That would make more sense that just a second buck, wheres the victory in that? Good idea. Say a $25 buy in for a sportsman license for the entire season and have 100 winners or so. Would be a good fund raiser at the Boat Sports and travel show and other well attended functions after deer season and before turkey season. The ticket is nearly the cost of one deer tag so you guys that have to buy a turkey tag or two and several deer tags would not be spending too much more for the cance at a full year of unlimited tags.

Well I pro second buck big time !! that said I would not support any such raffle because if they can raffle off a second buck they can just simply come off the politically driven OBR BS and simply let lose the second buck and at the same time have a season long buck tags not a buck only gun tag ,or have a bow hunter leave an open unfilled archery tag for a buck that way bow hunters would not worry about filling both archery tags with doe and then not still be able to buck hunt with a bow! This whole thing wreaks of money making with little return !

I'm glad I mde this poll. Now the DNR can see that this would be a very unpopular route to take to raise some money. Thanks for everyone's input!

How about taking the permits away from the farmers?
Then there would be enough bucks that everyone could kill 2.
My buddy has 80 acres and he can kill one buck. The farmer neighboring property has 40 acres and has 40 permits. He can kill bucks if he wants to.

How about just paying $100 for a second buck tag?
