Cooked up a mess of crappie fillets last week, but have always found crappie to be less firm than I like.
I'm ready to launch out in quest of some bluegills. In my opinion, one of the best fish for the table.
Kinda hankerin' for some morels too, but that's another forum.

I'm with you Parson. Rarely eat crappies and I catch tons of them out of Patoka. I hit some small lakes and strip pits for my eating gills.

Will you guys take them off the beds, I know some people think its wrong but I will take a few off each bed I find. I fish for crappie most of the time, I think the bluegill through the ice are the best.

I will take a few. Hate to see people fill their livewells off of beds.

I'll get 'em where I can. But I wouldn't want to empty the bedding area. Having said that, it would be difficult to "fish out" bluegills. Usually taking too few 'gills is more of a problem than taking too many. Too many = smaller fish.

Amen! Bring on the crickets and let the fillets stack up.

if you think bluegill is good then you have never tasted pure wild brook trout from a small mountain stream in WA state.

Cooked up my first batch of gills last weekend, plus a few crappie and a few bass.
