Illinois has a new archery NT record buckFebruary 05, 2010 at 06:30 PM BY JEFF LAMPE Illinois’ top non-typicals 1. 304 3/8 Jerry Bryant, 2001, Fulton Co., crossbow 2. 295 3/8 Scott Dexter, 2004, McDonough Co., muzzleloader 3. 268 1/8 Chris Kiernan, 2009, Kendall Co., bow 4. 267 3/8 Richard Pauli, 1983, Peoria Co., shotgun 5. 267 1/8 David Jones, 2003, Mason Co., bow 6. 258 6/8 Ernie Hires, 1994, Edgar Co., shotgun All signs indicate that there is indeed a new archery deer non-typical record for Illinois. Prairie State Outdoors.com has learned that the massive 37-point Kendall County buck shot by Chris Kiernan of Morris (pictured above) in the first week of November netted 268 1/8 inches. That betters Dave Jones’ current non-typical bowkill of 267 1/8 inches for a 36-point Mason County buck shot on Nov. 5 of 2003. The record won’t be official until after the buck is measured by a panel of Boone and Crockett Club measurers. Kiernan’s buck was measured recently after the mandatory 60-day drying period had ended. Kiernan has not made any official comment yet on his deer, but did post on Prairie State Outdoors.com that the net score was 268 1/8 and that he expected a story about his buck to appear in the July issue of North American Whitetail magazine. Kiernan was said to have been hunting the buck for two years. Beyond that, we have no concrete details to share.

This buck came from near Morris, Illinois which is a pretty highly populated, urbanized area for the most part. Interstate 80 runs right through there. Goes to show you that the big boys can find sancturary, and turn up about anywhere.
